Thank you OurStage! It’s really exciting to be featured on the front page. I am flattered by the review too! I’ve always had great experiences here. This means a lot to me :-)
For the last year I’ve been recording a new album “Islands”. While doing this I found that I put a lot of my normal musical endeavors on hold. My writing slowed down, my gigging ground to a halt and all my money was put into the recording. Now that I’m done recording, with only mastering and printing left to do, the fun begins again!
To support the record I’m planning a release followed by a tour (to as yet unknown places) and I need a band for that. I knew that the professional, session player type band was not for me. For most of my life I’ve played in bands, all over the world, and we’ve always been a group of people that wanted to play together because we loved the music and the experience. So, I needed to find a group of musicians that wanted to become this project with me. That is a tall order in these days of self-produced, self-funded, nyc rented music. But I lucked out.
After only a few months on Craigslist and a couple of great players that just didn’t quite fit, I’m playing with a group of guys that really rock. Good musicians with tons of talent that love the music and all get along. Now, although I wrote the songs on the record and produced the tracks with the incredible team at GaluminumFoil in Williamsburg, I never wanted a band where I handed out sheet music and corrected every note. Sometimes players like that kind of environment ("What do you want me to play here?) But I work best with musicians that think on their feet and through them the music gets better. These guys fit the bill. Multi-instrumentalists, writers and passionate about it all.
In future blogs I’ll let you know how we’re getting on, when we start gigging and where plus any funny band stories that come up (as they always do…) Until then thank Steve Sabile, Ben Greenberg and Jon DeLeon for being the right musicians in the right place at the right time!
