The History: Though a fairly new band to the Post-Hardcore/Hardcore/Rock scene, Words Like Daggers has already made some waves. Following the well-received release of three self-produced demo tracks in early 2010, the band played a series of shows with artists such as Attack Attack!, The Bled, In Fear And Faith, Haste The Day, My Children My Bride, Of Mice And Men, The Color Morale, and Upon A Burning Body. In early August, Words Like Daggers traveled to Phoenix, Arizona to record their debut EP, These Transient Times, with producer/engineer Cory Spotts (Cory has produced albums for artists such as Job For A Cowboy, Bless The Fall, Greeley Estates, The Maine, Stiletto Formal, and many more). Following the successful completion and recent release of their debut EP, Words Like Daggers is back in the Midwest gearing up for more shows (with artists such as Asking Alexandria, Born Of Osiris, Black Veil Brides, and Motionless In White) and an exciting future. The Music: Between January 2010 and May 2010, Words Like Daggers released three self-produced demo tracks. While the songs were well received, the band knew the style was a little "safer" than they preferred with regard to the bigger picture. Thus, after finalizing the lineup, they began writing heavily for a debut EP which would become "These Transient Times." Alongside Cory Spotts, the band poured countless hours into developing a 5 song project that resulted in a sound they are extremely proud to call their own. The new EP contains definite elements of the band's major influences such as - Minus The Bear, Refused, Underoath, Norma Jean, Circa Survive, The Devil Wears Prada, Converge, and The Deftones - but there is a very definite unique quality and composition. These Transient Times mixes the intensity of an over-arching desperate hardcore sound with melodic, almost soothing moments to create a seamless tapestry of contrast that purposely reflects the natural ebb and flow of the human condition. Another interesting element infused within "These Transient Times" involves the overall lyrical concept. Nearly every track on the new EP contains a few lines from at least one of William Shakespeare's tragedies, and the larger story loosely reflects the plot of "Macbeth". This is a somewhat consistent theme as the name "Words Like Daggers" was derived from Shakespeare's "Hamlet". The Show: While some bands place a lesser emphasis on the live show, Words Like Daggers constantly strives to make their live show as entertaining as possible. Even their first performances involved elaborate scrims, ego boxes, sample tracks, and a notably energetic stage presence. The band has many plans for future shows which will only add to the list of entertaining live elements. The Difference: From day one, Words Like Daggers has been an extremely hardworking band full of members who utilize past experiences and professional mindsets to get the most out of every opportunity. They do not aspire to be another band in a long lineup or trendy niche; rather, they continually strive to make a unique mark on the musical world and help shape the genre. So many bands choose to jump on the bandwagon and ride it out, but Words Like Daggers consciously focuses on trying to offer something new to their listeners, or at least a new twist on an old favorite. Whether its archaic lyricism, odd rhythms, jazz-based key signatures, or unusual transitions, you're bound to find something fresh within their music.
