With years of experience performing and professional tutelage from accomplished musicians, Paul’Michael has broken the traditional mold of a singer/songwriter. His universally appealing sound fuses the energy of pop music with the soul of rhythm and blues; structured by the rigidity of hip hop and polished with the sensuous characteristics of house music. As a product of Midwestern upbringing, Paul’Michael’s drive is powered by his desire to better the lives of those around him- by sharing his music with the world, by providing guidance for teens and young adults, and by supporting charities for diseases that have impacted his life. Paul’Michael’s current focus is production of his debut album. The first single, “Beauty Queen”, has been well-received and enjoys airplay on Indianapolis’ hit music station Radio Now 100.9. The completed EP (whose title has yet to be announced) is expected to release in Spring 2010. With the release of Paul’Michael’s album will come the launch of his biggest initiative yet- establishing financial aid for college-bound children using the revenue generated by digital downloads of his record. The proposed program will allow teenagers to earn funding through the promotion and distribution of his music. Specialized individual accounts will facilitate a 50/50 split between Paul’Michael and the youngsters who help expose the world to his album. When asked what the purpose is for pursuing such a selfless act, Paul’Michael explains, “It’s about giving an opportunity to young adults that I was never given. I could generate sales from my album, pocket those profits, and sleep well at night. Or, I could put a little less in my bank account, put the rest toward a youth’s chance to go to college, and sleep even better at night.” Through this philanthropic idea, Paul’Michael hopes to change the public mindset about downloading music. While the opportunity and ability to receive digital music free of charge from the internet will never cease to exist, he hopes that this program will illustrate the impact one can make by spending a few of their hard-earned dollars. Most importantly, they will be supporting a dedicated teen’s efforts to better their life by attaining a college degree. To pay or to download for free? Through Paul’Michael’s vision, the right choice becomes clear. As a true entertainer, Paul’Michael’s aspirations are not restricted to studio production. In late 2009, he initiated a series of artist showcases titled “P.M. to the A.M.” for which he personally scouted and hand-picked local talent. The proceeds that he raised were donated to Multiple Sclerosis charities (Paul’Michael’s contribution to beating the disease that has plagued his mother for several years). Additional goals for “P.M. to the A.M.” included exposure of the musical genius being cultivated in Indianapolis, as well as assisting fans to see and hear outside of the proverbial box. With samplings of hip hop, reggae, dance teams, R&B, spoken word, freestyle battles, rap, pop, and even a fashion show, this objective was easily achieved. Always looking to the future and continuously setting the bar higher, Paul’Michael keeps ambitious long-term goals as well. Currently, his forte is singing and an impassioned falsetto is his instrument. As he continues to expand musically and cross boundaries into other genres, however, Paul’Michael plans to have the ability to do so from behind a piano, with a guitar strapped to his chest, or while operating turntables hooked into a laptop. Indeed, with radical devotion to his work, the future looks bright for the Paul’Michael Empire. When inquired of his musical influences, Paul’Michael claims he’s “just like anyone else”, citing performers known and loved by all: Michael Jackson, a fellow Hoosier, who touched the world with his warmth, love, and music; Peabo Bryson for his soulful vocal contributions to the world of R&B, as well as many Disney movies; Prince, a self-taught master of more than 30 instruments and the pioneer of Minneapolis sound; Brian McKnight, an R&B icon with a stunningly eclectic skill set; Stokley Williams, singer and drummer for Mint Condition, a diverse band playing traditional jazz stylings to mainstream R&B; and Kenneth Brian "Babyface" Edmonds, who attended the same high school and lived in the same neighborhood as Paul’Michael, and went on to earn a successful career as a singer, songwriter, musician, producer, and entrepreneur. At the ripe age of 24, Paul’Michael boasts a long list of accomplishments. His high school show choir record lists 13 grand champion medals and three state titles. In 2008, he placed among the top 50 in MTV’s hit show P. Diddy’s Starmaker, competing for a recording contract from Bad Boy Records. In 2009, Paul’Michael ranked as one of the top eight finalists of Radio Now 100.9’s Break Out Bands contest. Paul’Michael has performed with Josh Groban and Keke Winans and has also opened shows for Jeremiah, Twista, Mike Jones, Gorilla Zoe and Murphy Lee.
