Pat Brown's blog

It's always good to hear from the listeners.

I really appreciate the positive comments and messages I receive, it feels good to know someone is listening. I’ve been entered in the solo instrumental channel for November, and have heard some really beautiful music. It’s not my usual, I’m more of lyrical person, but quite often..I feel the urge to just play. PB

Quit bitchin and focus on your art at OS.

It never ceases to amaze me, how much time is wasted complaining about the policies and operations of OS. I’ve stated before, I don’t agree with all of the rules and policies here, but I try not to let it interfere with my music. I’ve had songs flagged and removed, I didn’t agree, but I got over it. However, to the best of my knowledge, I’ve never flagged a song myself. I let OS worry about being the flagging and policy police, I focus on the music. There’s so many talented artists here, sometimes I spend hours just discovering excellent new music. OS, even with it’s flaws, is by far the most even-handed “FREE” indie music website. And the key word here folks..is FREE. You’re FREE to get FREE exposure for your art/music, and you’re FREE to leave if it doesn’t suit you. Pretty simple.

I’m of the opinion, that the same people who constantly bitch, complain and dissect every procedure and policy..are the same people who ASKED to be hall monitors in school. “Ooo I’m telling, Joe put a blues song in country” etc. Please, give me a break. If these people put half the time and energy into their art, that they waste on pointless whining, they’d wouldn’t have so much time on their hands, to sweat the small stuff.

I’m an independent musician and a independent thinker, I never have been much of a follower or a joiner. I don’t always respond well to rules, regulations or authority. But, the same passion I have for fighting any “powers that be”, takes a backseat to the passion and commitment I have for my music. I don’t agree with everything Daniel Palmer says, but I respect the fact he has a job to do. I think his time would be better spent, building us a stronger FREE venue for our art, rather than constantly putting out little fires created by the micro-managers of mundane. He has directly answered the same questions/complaints at least a half a dozen times. C’mon, even a old stoner musician like me figured it out the first time.

Life’s too short. Focus on your family, friends, your art, and use OS as the vehicle to express your love for all the above. Be good to each other. Peace, Pat

The House Where You Live

Oh it’s a cold world, when nobody cares, what happens to others, in the House that We Share. PB

Can you see me smiling?

I’m smiling, it’s free and it feels good. Get your smile on:) PB.
