As a child growing up in Hip-Hop’s golden era, the new found culture made quite an impression on music virtuoso, Osa. Son of a Nigerian father & Dominican mother, his parents held strong beliefs on education and a career. With a background of various cultures, Osa still had to face the troubles of fitting into the norm of American culture. Growing up was not easy, as the family began as a troupe of five living in a one room apartment in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. After being schooled for day care and kindergarten in Lagos, Nigeria, he was skipped a grade upon returning back to Brooklyn, New York, where family, culture and society raised him. Music had always been a strong presence. His father owned a store that catered to musicians and art aficionados, his cousin was a DJ, and his older sister was a true hip-hop fan. By the age of six, Osa had already been enrolled in piano lessons. Before he reached eight, lyrics had already been written in the form of funny poems. Also around this age came performing artslessons, gymnastics, drum practice, and art classes. Although accepted as an art major for New York’s Prestigious Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School, his popularity soared as a young DJ, putting out mix-tapes of the hottest music every month, while featuring freestyles of him and friends. Before you knew it, young Osa was in the studio with Buckshot of Duck Down Records at a the age of fourteen. His reputation of being a good student landed him at an after-school scholarship program, giving him an opportunity to work as a summer associate on Wall Street, at the age of fourteen. Before graduating high school, Osa and friends created a group that would soon become underground notables. Known as the AmountBoyz, the dance/music crew would appear at talent shows, radio interviews, and MTV’s first ever televised Hip-Hop Week program. With much success under their belts, including background dance performances & touring with such artists as Madonna, Diddy, J. Lo, Missy Elliot, Omarion, and many more, Osa took another path…. enrolling at New York State’s Oswego State University for Business & Marketing. He later graduated with a college degree….all before the age of 21. While in school, Osa balanced being an AmountBoy, sustaining good grades, and making a name for himself on the school’s campus. The college experience was filled with traveling back to New York for various performances, early morning exams, and numerous shows in school and city venues. While there, he also had his own radio slot, again mixing all the newest hits with songs of his own. Upon graduating, the group had released two CD’s and one DVD collectively which would go on to sell thousands nationwide. After graduating college, he began working for well known record labels and entertainment companies, in which showed him the other side of how the industry works. With the dream to becoming not only an artist, but a music icon, Osa made the move to Los Angeles, California in 2007. With i,Rapper, the new mixtape series, currently on iTunes, he is out to prove that his lyrical wordplay is one not to be ignored. He won BET’s very first Wildin’ Out Wednesday program. The self-proclaimed Hip-Hop’s Poster Child grew up break-dancing, emceeing, DJ’ing, and designing art and graffiti. His story is unique, and the songs are easily loved. Osa stretches nothing more than to be himself, while showcasing a skilled manner of putting words together in melodic form. The stage has always been his second home, and now fully seasoned as an artist and young executive, Hip-Hop should be proud.
