When Ryan Hickey and Brad White started jamming together in 2006, it was far from serious. They recorded their music with a laptop--improvising everything on the spot--and didn’t pay attention to song structure or rhyme schemes. It may have been all fun and games at the time, but little did either of them know that what they had in common would grow into something more than a music project. That their collaboration would become a band. That their band would write and record songs. That their songs would give them the opportunity to play with a national headliner.
Open Ravine has come a long way from Hickey’s basement in Lancaster, PA, where Hickey and White recorded their first song. Over the past three years, Open Ravine has self-released two EP’s--both of which have gained them recognition in the Lancaster music scene. Currently, the band is working on their third EP with up-and-coming engineer Joe Bunting. The group continues to develop their songwriting chops with the new material--expanding into genres they had not previously explored. One of the stand-out tracks, Count the Days, resembles a rock song of the 90’s, while the beat-driven anthem Rumor--a collaborative effort with Mike Graybill, a long-time friend of the band’s--sounds like it could be heard at a club. Collectively, the EP represents the growth of Open Ravine as a band, and their constant push to outdo themselves.
Open Ravine has shared the stage with nationally recognized artists: A Skylit Drive (Fearless), Breathe Electric (Independent), Cash Cash (Independent), For the Foxes (Hopeless), From First To Last (Rise), Halestorm (Atlantic), Motionless In White (Fearless), Texas In July (Equal Vision), The Dangerous Summer (Hopeless), This or the Apocalypse (Good Fight), and We Are the In Crowd (Hopeless). They have been showcased in the LAUNCH Music Conference every year since it began in 2009. Additionally, the group has embarked on a Hot Topic acoustic tour across the state of Pennsylvania.
