Djiby Gueye born in Dakar- Senegal, better known by his stage name “Nu'york”, is an American rapper. As a young kid, growing up in Senegal, Nu'york witnessed the growth of Hip-Hop among the African Youth. His mother encouraged his music through the purchase of a boom box which introduced him all the latest music hits. Nu'york spent most of him time either in school, or at concerts/music shows, where he got most of his energy from. At the age of 12, his parents moved to the United States (Bronx, New York). His parents enrolled him at the Booker .T. Washington Elementary school in Manhattan, New York. The learning experience at school was a great one for Nu'york, however, his classmates constantly made fun of his accent, but this didn’t stop him from doing what he had to do, which was – LEARN. Growing up in the Bronx was tough for Nu'york, but he remained a good kid, and concentrated in schol. He saw people freestyle at school and thought it was cool, so he’d watch them get ripped. He had a great sense of humor but needed to build his vocabulary in order to compete with the other kids. In high school, Nu'york was still in touch with his cultural background and still very much in love with his music. Once Nu'york turned a sophomore in high school, his family moved from the big city, to Cincinnati, Ohio. He was enrolled at Withrow High School. By this time, he had a Newyorker accent and dressed like a Newyorker, thus causing a high level of attraction at school. His classy style and “New York Swag” caused his classmates to confer upon him the nickname – NU'YORK. While in high school, Nu'york built a much stronger vocabulary and decided to join the rap game. During this time, he met 2 of his friends who were seniors in high school – Ameth Diop a.k.a "Zeus", and Bamba Leye a.k.a "Fezze". They had started a record label, Global Kats Entertainment and were looking for new artistes to work with. He was hesitant at first, until he saw the level of dedication and passion that both producers had for their record label and music in general. Nu'york hit the studio with Global Kats Entertainment and created a vast array of hits. Today, Nu'york has major hits, including his single “Gotta Make It” featuring Jr. Mark, a reggea artist as well as the club banger “Lean On 'Em” with guest artist like Ibou Ndoye (Guitar) and Eliot Slaughter (Piano). These songs are soon to become Global Hits! Nu'york's debut Album, New York Time is due June 19, 2009.
