Sim Some people become artists because they seek fortune and fame. They believe that somehow, performing, writing and producing will bring them the accolades and acclaim they feel they've been missing. And then there are the people who have no choice in the matter - artistry has chosen them. They are compelled to write, perform and record the way the rest of us are compelled to breathe. Whether they sell five million records or just five, some folks will always create." Sim is one of these rare individuals. Sim, was born in California. He grew up in many cities but spent most of his life in Farrell, Pa. He grew up surrounded by music. His father and mother were music collectors who always had music playing in their house. His brother Omar plays multiple instruments. His brother Charles, is also an inspiring rap artist. Sim's grandmother was the first woman disc jockey in Pennsylvania. Sim is influenced by music but has no training. He met a friend who introduced him to music production. From there he learned to play the keyboards to his satisfaction and started writing his own original material. It did not take long for Sim to start putting vocals to his instrumentals once he realized artist in his hometown were not taking him seriously and extremely unfocused. As a teenager Sim, had recorded dozens of demo tracks. Blinded by sports dreams Sim went to college to play football. Even at Theil College in Greenville, Pa he had his studio set up practicing music in his dorm room, but skipping football practice to do so. Sim, lost his football scholarship and back to Farrell, Pa he went. Working at various jobs to support his CD collection and studio updates. In 2006 Sim step out of his comfort zone and went to Orlando, Fl for a music convention where he attempted a feet still unheard of in the music industry. Trying to impress the judges Sim, rapped over a live piano which he played. Even though it went well it did not go great. With only a couple of months to prepare it was hard for Sim to be comfortable completing that task. "It's possible but it's not for me," he says. "I only did it because an agent who worked for Transcontinental Records said it would grab the judges attention." "I understand sometimes you gotta take a chance, but if I had to do it again I would go a different route." Sim, is a very cool, calm and focused individual. It is almost impossible to miss him if you are in his presence. He has a thick build with eyes and smile models envy. I believe he has what it takes, because he knows his strengths and weaknesses. "Some people ask me to freestyle thinking that my main focus is rappin' or my only talent is rappin' when in fact I am skillful in many other ways musically." "I never had the time to stand on the block and freestyle with the homeboys, because I spent all my time trying to be a producer or the next Reggie White." Sim rambles, "I am able to rap because I am a gifted writer, so that's what I do (write)." I write rap and r & b lyrics." "That is why when I get signed I will be bringing to a label more then just a rapper who think freestylin' is the ticket to success." "I can flow, write, arrange, edit, and produce!" "I feel like I am the total package." Sim finishes his argument by saying, "I am no Biggie; You aint gonna catch me freestylin' a whole album. There is only a select few with that gift." Sim laughs. The love of music is flowing in Sim's veins. I asked him what music/artist is he playing these days and he instantly said, "Everybody, cause I always got music playing in my head from the Bee Gees to my own music." Sim is not a big fan of sampling but is becoming one. He has recently worked with some samples from modern artist. He praises he can make hits from scratch from so many days and nights of practice. Wherever Sim settles I am positive that everyone living will experience this living icon. He will be a solo performer with power. "My turn is coming," states Sim.
