The peony is known as “the defiant flower” because it cannot be forced to bloom; it moves in its own way, and in its own timing. Urban Rock Artist, NiQue embodies a soulful defiance of music industry stereotypes. She is determined to make music that inspires, challenges, provokes and stirs the soul. NiQue is a special kind of artist who subtly blends the edginess of rock and hip hop music with the smooth and soulful sounds of R&B. No other artist in the industry has demonstrated the boldness to fuse rock, R&B, hip hop and Gospel quite the way NiQue has. All the passion, the drive and the energy that fuels NiQue’s soul-stirring music was encouraged and nurtured by her grandmother in their Washington, DC area church home.
“I started singing when I was about 3 in the church; my grandmother made me sing all the time,” said the urban rock singer. “She would make me record songs from Etta James, Stephanie Mills and Shirley Murdock, and sing them for her friends. I liked it.”
It would be from this foundation of gospel, R&B, blues and soul that NiQue would forge her own sound that manifests in songs like, “Obsession” and “BriAN” that descriptively tell of struggles of relationships, love and life in general.
“BriAN is my favorite song,” says the Urban Rock Diva. “It is my favorite song because it took me back to the concept of the first song that I wrote, which was incredibly long. However, in BriAN, I was able to tell the whole story, get the point across and convey the message and emotion that I wanted to convey, within the typical 3 ½ minute format. That’s saying a lot.”
Not only does NiQue’s musical ability say a lot, but her 5’9 ½” statuesque beauty further illustrates the power and strength that NiQue represents for women and young girls.
