NAMID ‘The Sound” A unique sound that has a “Pop appeal with a Soulful edge, and a touch of Vegas Swag”. Namid Dakotah was born on December 18th. A native of East Stroudsburg, PA, Namid (a Native American name meaning “Star Dancer”) had a unique mix of musical exposure growing up. His father, a musician primarily influenced by Motown & contemporary Jazz, became frustrated by the music industry and pursued interests in Finance but insisted his children take music lessons. Namid’s mother was an avid Pop/ Top 40 listener, which gave Namid a broad spectrum of music to influence his sound. Even though Namid and his brothers, Nakai and Nawat, developed a passion for the music that penetrated the walls of their home, they were discouraged from pursuing it as a career partially due to their father’s jaded view of the industry. After finishing High School, Namid decided to attend college and major in Finance, instinctively following in his father's footsteps. Over time, Namid’s love for music overshadowed his father’s horror stories; he began working on tracks and experimenting with different sounds. Namid enjoyed making music but did not see a music career in his horizon. Di'Mon Brown, a veteran producer, heard the Dakotah brothers’ music. Immediately struck by their unique sound, he began working with them. A music career was a distant idea for the Dakotah brothers: they created music for fun and a chance to learn recording. Unbeknownst to the Dakotah brothers, Di'Mon saw something and had an agenda. The single, “Doesn't Matter” was written by Di'Mon with a female singer in mind. The two happened to be together in the studio, when Namid was singing along with him as he was working out the melody. Di'Mon then asked Namid to record a reference vocal. Namid adamantly responded, “I AM NOT A SINGER!” Faced with resistance, Di’Mon managed to convince Namid and his brothers to record. Everyone who heard the reference was clearly impressed, mostly stating, “That’s a single! Just put it on YouTube and see what happens.” After much persuading, they agreed to let it be put out virally. As a result of the overwhelming response from listeners, the group NAMID was formed (Namid as the front-man, his brothers as members of the group and Co-Producers). Although the group agreed to do an EP to test the waters and see how it works. Namid and his brothers choose to tread lightly and stay behind the scenes. They take it all in stride and are still committed to "just having fun.” To the listener, each line captures the true emotion behind the lyrics. Stay tuned…more NAMID to come!
