My Boy Rascal is the ongoing musical project of Canadian musician Colby Ramsay. Ramsay was born in Vancouver but grew up in Naramata, British Columbia. Music became a part of his life at a very young age; he began playing the piano at age 5 and had already written his first song by age 12. His song-writing career really took off when he started playing guitar upon entering high school. In 2006 he left home to attend the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, NC. Influenced by the changing events in his life and his travels to Africa and Europe, Ramsay continued to grow and develop as a songwriter.  In early 2009 he won a record deal with the fledgling student-run record label Vinyl Records UNC, the plan was to begin recording the debut album in the fall. Around the same time, he brought on board Colin Iwanski and Mallorie Price to sing background vocals. The trio met while singing together in Tar Heel Voices, UNC's oldest co-ed a cappella group. During the summer of 2009, Ramsay worked alongside noted Canadian music producer and recording engineer Malcolm Burn in Kingston, NY; the time he spent with Burn would prove invaluable in the months to come. Upon returning to Chapel Hill, Ramsay began recording fervently with the help of fellow UNC student and emergent music producer Andrew Hamlet. Armed with the knowledge gleaned from Ramsay's time with Burn and an internship at Universal Mastering Studios, the duo began shaping the songs that would make up The Study of Animal Magicality. The culmination of over three years of preparation, The Study of Animal Magicality is a collection of seven well-crafted songs that takes listeners on a journey through the trials and tribulations of love and life's absurdity. Immediately listenable and beautifully orchestrated, The Study of Animal Magicality is an impressive debut release that will no doubt put this Canadian artist on the map.
