McKinney "WorkHorse" Williams Jr. hails from the Westside of Jackson, MS, the Bottom to be exact. The two-time Jackson Music Award Nominee is one of the hottest underground artist to ever come out of Mississippi. The rapper/producer/songwriter has won industry showcases in New York, Nashville, and Miami. He is also the only other hip-hop artist in the state of Mississippi to perform at the Jackson Music Awards besides David Banner. As a overlooked lyricist and underdog in the industry, he paves his own path with his unique brand of reality music. With music similar to Andre 3000 and B.O.B his musical ability is endless. Fans have said that he will inspire other artists to put substance and meaning back into their music. He produces thought provoking music while still being able to represent the hoods and rock the clubs. He sets himself apart from the bling bling, dopeboy music by telling real life stories about the consequences of our choices. As a board member of the Hip-Hop Rhyme & Reason Foundation, he helps to teach and spread hip-hop internationally in many different parts of the world. His label Monsta Entertainment pushes education, knowledge, and ownership in the black community. They encourage people to be thinkers and not just blindly follow what the crowd is doing. Artist Statement "I started performing music in the church with my family as a child. My father had me listening to every type of music thats out there. He told me that the first thing that I had to learn about music was that I had to listen and respect music as an art. He said that the key to music is relating to people and understanding the human emotions. I learned that if I can become in touch with peoples emotions that I would have something special. Therefore on my album I came with songs that people can relate to and issues that will affect listeners mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically. I plan to bring the real back to music and still have fun. " Basically, I'm gone do me". Workhorse is currently working on his next mixtape slated to release this summer and his highly anticipated album Ahead of Da Game: The Road Less Traveled will soon follow.
