The band Merrill is led by singer/songwriter Chris Merrill, and the group manages a soulful past with a blend of rhythm and rock to form a sound that transcends categories.

The rest of the band consists of former Hank Williams III guitarist Justin Defreece, former Steelheart and Tommy Tutone drummer Joe Gardner, and bassist Darren Stout.

The Band has opened for such acts as Maroon 5, Counting Crows, and Augustana. They also made it to the second round of the Bodog National Battle of the Bands contest in 2006 before they had to bow out because they lost their bass player. They were selected to play the 2007 Bumbershoot Music Festival playing with such acts as Crowded House, The Shins, Gym Class Heroes, and Panic at the Disco. They have received airplay in Seattle on The End( 107.7) for their song "Wonderful Nothing" and in Portland on KINK (101.9) for their song "The One Thing".

Merrill is also receiving accolades on garageband.com and ourstage.com:

The song Intervention received the Rocking Track in Pop Rock award, week of 25th of June, 2007. And the Song Back 4 More was selected as The Track Of The Day for July 28th, 2007. The song also has recieved two other awards; Feel Good Track in Pop Rock, week of 16th of July, 2007 and Rocking Track in Pop Rock, week of 2nd of July, 2007. Their current single "The One Thing" was chosen as the track of the day for August 28th 2008. On oustage.com the band has scored four top ten finishes in their monthly competitions, once with Back 4 More (June 2007, Pop) and twice with Intervention (July/August 2007, Rock), and with It's U (May 2008, Pop).

Though the band is often touring, the group's roots are in Portland, Oregon.
