For Melvin "Melo tha Truth" Wilmore, rapping is like second nature. Having only begun his rap career just five short years ago, Melo's ability to write songs, rap and produce like a pro is an element that takes many by surprise. His upbringing is similar to that of countless other rappers: poverty, single parent home, relatives plagued by drug addictions‐‐typical story for many urban youth, but the similarities end there. While most other artists with similar backgrounds shy away from sensitive topics such as love, being hurt and family, Melo likens himself to "an R&B artist who flows rather than sings." He is not afraid to reveal his feelings through music. His life is an open book for all to see. Melo was not born into a musical family. In fact, he discovered his musical talents on accident. After a relationship with his high school sweetheart went sour, he says: "I turned to the pen and pad to cope." Writing down his feelings also helped him vent his frustrations about his mother's battle with drugs. "It was an escape and a positive outlet for me to release my frustrations." His unique approach to music is what sets him apart and he credits LL Cool J, Kanye West and Ryan Leslie with being his biggest influences. As an up‐and‐coming artist, Melo takes his craft seriously and his innate hustler's spirit has helped him to secure opening act spots for a variety of established artists, including One Chance, Ben One and Grand Hustle's Young Dro. This same drive also secured his spot as winner in a local artist showcase, where he competed against more than 15 of Chicago's finest artists. Currently unsigned, Melo the Truth has been successful in generating street buzz that many new artists dream of. His independently released mixtape "Truth Be Told" catapulted his street popularity, with the single "Akademiks" in heavy rotation on Clear Channel's WGCI. "Akademiks," also featured on G.O.O.D. Music producer Keezo Kane's "On Fire" mixtape, is quickly becoming an urban anthem. This self‐described "lyrical monster of the Midwest" is set to bring his A‐game and put his name on the map. Like a true artist, Melo stays in the studio and on a constant grind. Stay tuned for big things from Melo tha Truth... His mixtape, From Tha Block 2 Tha bedroom, is set to release August 2010 www.MySpace.com/melothatruth www.twitter.com/melothatruth www.facebook.com/melothatruth For booking information, contact 773-540-2783
