Melissa Cox
For over a decade, Melissa Cox has captivated audiences with her powerful mezzo soprano voice, award-winning songwriting, provocative lyrics and powerful stage presence. Voted Best Singer/Songwriter of 2008 by Spark Magazine and Best Musical Folk Artist by the DDOA the same year, Melissa follows her own vision for her music and strives to craft songs that are inventive yet accessible, fresh yet familiar.
Melissa attended University of Delaware where she studied English, Women’s Studies and Music Management. She honed her performance skills and found her true voice at local campus open mics, and soon started to land gigs at local restaurants and fairs. In 2002, Melissa opened for signed artist Catie Curtis, and in January of 2005, she teamed up with four other UD students and launched her band Mythica.
The musical prowess of the quintet quickly led to several high profile performances, including an opening slot at a Spin Doctors and Sister Hazel concert in 2006. Since then, Melissa and Mythica have supported the Young Dubliners, the Prodigals, Tom Chapin, the Makem Brothers and Maggie Sansone. They have performed at some of the largest events and most prestigious venues on the East Coast.
