Mattias Lies highly topical because of his second, newly released record ”Messages”. The new album is very different compares to what he has done before. The up-follower is a mix between folk music and American rock tradition where Lies are reflecting fortune, a changing world and a changing state of mind. The album is inspired by the fortune of mankind, his own as well as others. The difference between the debut album “Mattias Lies” (ISMA:2006) and the up-follow album “Messages” are just as big as the similarity is obvious. The debut was a crossover encompassing many different kinds of styles, including World music, Scandinavian folk music, Pop, and Jazz, with Swedish lyrics. The debut of Lies got a lot of attention among the Swedish radio channels, including television appearances. The new up-follower is mixing folk music with American rock á la Tom Petty, Neil Young and R.E.M, and the lyrics are written in English. You do recognize Mattias Lies on his new album “Messages” but he is making his second album from another viewpoint with a very personal perspective.
