About Matt Ellis
Matt Ellis
Matt Ellis is an Australian singer/songwriter with an acoustic folk/rock sound. Born in Sydney and raised in Hong Kong, he has been based in Los Angeles since August 2005.
From the Sydney Opera House to New York’s CBGB’s (RIP), this brilliant Aussie independent has been performing internationally since the launch of his critically acclaimed solo debut “Peel”, back in 2000. Ellis has just launched “TELL THE PEOPLE”, his third full length album.
The 11 tracks on “TELL THE PEOPLE” attracted a brilliant line-up to the recording sessions which included Nels Cline (Wilco) and Tim Young (David Sylvian, The Youngs) on guitars, Greg Leisz (KD Lang, Beck, Joni Mitchell) on lap steel, pedal steel and mandolin, Tim Luntzel (Bright Eyes, Norah Jones, Emmylou Harris) on bass, Dave Palmer (Fiona Apple, AIR) on piano and rhodes and Branden Harper on drums.
2007 was a massive year for this indie singer/songwriter with countless US shows
including SXSW, an Australian Tour, international airplay, TV placements and rave
reviews. The momentum has continued over the past three months with a return tour back to his native Australia, continued airplay including a MySpace featured profile, healthy online sales, and now a show at the legendary Troubadour on April 21st.

BBQ, Bands & Booze!
You’d be totally mad to miss this. Cinema Bar has handed itself over to us so that we can rock Culver City. Don’t know Cinema Bar? Who would have thought that in a town a-glitter with glam and relentless gentrification, there still exists the ultimate, seedy, totally shitty, dive bar? Sprinkled between the shot glasses and overflowing ashtrays (oh no, that’s right they finally gave in and canned that last year) are the same, old, barfly kodgers who’ve been frequenting the joint for decades, blow-ins, ring-ins and locals young and old. There’s a swift-kick-to-the-side rock n’ roll/ country juke box, a patio & BBQ out back and most importantly, cheap & stiff drinks (for real).
So enter Sunday School
