MATRIARCH Familiarize yourself with the name MATRIARCH because a new dawn of, “the return of the female emcee,” is about to begin. Determined not to be just another artist on the music scene, MATRIARCH is currently preparing to emerge with a debut album that is going to take the studio, the stage, and the music industry by storm. With her sassy, forthright persona, this fire-breathing emcee has that “special magic” that allows her to not only explore material oriented within the genres of hip hop, rock, r&b, pop, funk, reggae & any other genre thrown her way, she also has the gift of transcending them effortlessly. Born & raised in Texas, this singer/song writer got her first break by traveling to NYC on a visit. Carrying only $50, a duffle bag & a dream, after only one month of life in NYC, MATRIARCH chose to stay because the dream was all she had left & she was determined to pursue it by any means necessary. In the early years, she had the opportunity to work with artists such as Chico Debarge, Uncle Sam, Anthony Hamilton, Boot Camp Clik, Lil John, David Banner, Ying Yang Twins, Blondie/Debbie Harry, Strength In Numbers, Jade MacRae, Island Boys Band, Boom P., Strange Fruit Project, Ross “Spyda” Sloan (producer), & D. J. Rob E Rob to name a few. Working w/this eclectic mix of major & indie label artists w/in the hip hop, r&b, rock, & reggae genres has helped shape who she is as an artist today. After experimenting w/acting in an indie film (Hot Metal), MATRIARCH felt that in order to become a successful artist in today’s market, you must first become an effective business person/entrepreneur, so she decided to take a self imposed exile so that she could pursue other ventures. Throughout her hiatus, her ambition remained fierce & she continued to creatively hone her skills, never taking for granted the artistic blessings bestowed upon her. It was through discipline, an intense resilience, & a devout love for music that helped her decide she felt most at home behind the mic. Within the realm of the music industry, but more specifically the ubiquitous world of hip hop where the female emcee is virtually extinct, it is noticeably obvious there are too many male emcees & not enough mics. This seemingly hostile atmosphere of testosterone vs. estrogen is primarily the reason why MATRIARCH feels it is crucial she take control of the “big break” she has persistently been preparing, yet patiently been waiting for. Her continuously evolving talents are characteristics that will allow her to successfully engage in the “survival of the fittest” mannerisms of not only the entertainment industry & its numerous categories, but any endeavor she chooses to pursue in the future.
