Markuss, was born August 8, 1984 as Mark Simms Jr. and has been surrounded by music from that day on. Although he was born in the states, being the son of Jamaican parents, Markuss loved Caribbean music from a young age, in particular reggae music. Both his parents have played a big part in fostering his musical talent. Markuss’ mother is a minister and encouraged him to play instruments in church at a young age. His father on the other hand is a “Sound Man” at heart, music and photography were his favorite hobbies. As Markuss grew up, his passion for playing, performing, and creating music increased. By the age of 15 Markuss was deejaying at family parties and other gatherings, as well as playing the drums at church. As the years went on he got more involved in deejaying and selecting (playing), and became well known in his hometown of Amityville, N.Y and the surrounding areas. At age 19 Markuss was ready to take music to another level. He and his cousins decided to start an entertainment company by the name of Blue Mountain Entertainment, named after the tallest mountain in Jamaica. As the company grew Markuss was not only playing on Long Island, but in New York City, Connecticut, New Jersey, Florida and Jamaica as well. Around the age of 21, people started to notice Markuss had a seemingly authentic Jamaican accent, which was unusual for an American born and raised man. They where often surprised how he spoke perfect English around his peers and was a completely different person on the mic. It is because of this “talent” combined with the ability to come up with songs on the spot, his basic knowledge of music composition and his wit, Markuss decided to step out of the DJ booth and into the studio. Markuss spent six months going from studio to studio learning as much as he could about studio recording and was eventually able to build and run his own studio. By his 22 birthday Markuss recorded about ten songs, a combination of; Dancehall, Lovers Rock, and reggae hip hop collaborations and was performing all over New York. His music career was on the rise that is until some major events in his life threw him of course, and his music career had to be put aside. Even though Markuss wasn’t publicly involved in music, he continued to work on his writing, performing, and producing. Now at the age of 24, he is seasoned and ready to take his music and performances to an international level. Markuss is currently working with producers all over the world, and is preparing to tour with different artists this year.
