About Marcus T. Kemp & Prayze Nation
Marcus T. Kemp’s life could have been another unimportant tragedy gone unnoticed in the world today. In Houston; statistics tend to reflect the failure of young black adults who succumb to poverty, drug abuse, neglect, abandonment, and other unfortunate conclusions. Statistically, Marcus Kemp, could have ended up in jail, homeless, or dead; however, through his faith in God and the gift of music he is transforming the world around him. During his life and career; Marcus has overcome many obstacles meant to prevent him from accomplishing his vision.
Overcoming these obstacles, through acts of faith, and exercising his gifts has taken his relationship with God to another level in his Spiritual maturity. His journey with music began as words spoken by his late grandmother, Ethel Lathon. Later these words were bred into a complete love affair with gospel music, through the exposure given to him by his aunt, Cheryl Ivory. Marcus quickly moved from listening to playing music on the drums and piano and it became his escape in the midst of the storms and the chaos surrounding him. Passionately he practiced; ignoring the confusion surrounding his home environment caused by his mother’s drug addiction, until his talents were discovered by a church at the age of 12. His fervor to learn; led him quickly to begin writing and arranging his own music.
Over the years, Marcus, diligently studied and practiced his gift while assembling a diverse group of musicians from many different church choirs who understood and saw his vision. Today, that group is known as Prayze Nation. Actually, Prayze Nation, began in 1997 as a community choir called Abundant Praise: Over the years it has matured and evolved into the present day movement. I use the word movement because his vision for the ministry supersedes any recording contract or hope of personal gain that anyone could imagine.
His vision encompasses the key component of homelessness which is housing. Marcus has been diligently working towards this goal since 1997, only in the last 5 years, has he been able to devote every part of himself to this vision which is building and providing homes to the homeless of Houston. Over the past five years; Marcus has willingly sacrificed for the success of Prayze Nations which is the key to accomplishing his vision as well as the lives of people that his ministry touches.
Marcus Kemp & Prayze Nation major projects are Breakthrough and 31 days. 31 days, is still under construction; it arose from a series of prophecies that the group had received in the fall of 2009.
The Bible says "For I know the thoughts and plans that I have for you, says the Lord, thoughts and plans for welfare and peace and not for evil, to give you hope in your final outcome" (Jer.29:11) Marcus has accepted that which God has given him and has grasped it without reservation knowing that his ministry is for the Kingdom and the glory of God.
