About Luke Wieting

Portrait of Luke Wieting

I’ve played the piano since I was six, and pounded on it since I was tall enough to climb onto the bench. I hoped to be a concert pianist, but found I had more fun improvising than practicing. At some point, it occurred to me that I could change my focus to composing, and refer to my playtime as work.

Since then I’ve earned a BFA from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in Music Composition and Technology. My composition teachers include Keith Carpenter, Ron Foster, Ilya Levinson, and Emmy award winning composer Hummie Mann. I’ve written scores for eleven independent films, as well as music for dance and other visual media. Performers of my works include Grammy award winning composer/trumpeter Terence Blanchard, and the New Millennium Orchestra. I am currently pursuing an MFA in Music Composition for the Screen at Columbia College Chicago.

I hope my love for the structured blending of sound comes across in every one of my pieces, and that through it I am able to convey an appreciation for life that I cannot put into words.

Sounds phenomenal, my man. Glad to know there are some really good classical composers still out there.

Luke,

Swinging by to pay some respect. Really wonderful film score stuff that is being noticed on many channels. Extremely soft touch, takes a pro to pull off what you're doing - I see the classical training shining through.

Your music is beautiful. That chord change in Currents at 15 seconds really hits me. What is it? Anyway, I'm also pursing a career in film scoring. I'm curious as to what you think about My stuff and what I should do to get my foot in the door. Thanks, Dan
