When he says “music is in my genes,” Lou Writer knows what he’s talking about. As the product of generations of soulful gospel singers, it was no surprise that by the tender age of six Lou was already displaying musical talent that rivaled singers much more advanced in age.
While still in grade school, Lou learned his father had been shot 21 times on Christmas morning. The near fatal shooting shook his family to the core, and the motive will forever be a mystery. Lou’s memories of that depressing time resonate in his music. His soulful cry is heard through his lyrics of pain, heartache, loss, and defeat. Still, Lou manages to appreciate his many blessings, and his charismatic energy is evident in numerous melodies about life, love, and strength. Lou’s variety isn’t just in his substance; he manages to successfully pen hits across many genres that cater to a widespread audience. With his natural musical abilities paired with his ability to sing, dance, and entertain his way right into people’s hearts, Lou Writer is surely a budding force to be reckoned with. Lou has enjoyed entertaining others for quite awhile. The first couple of times that he recalls performing for a crowd were at his elementary and middle school graduations, for which he was selected to sing solos. While in high school, Lou worked to polish his vocal and choreography skills as he prepared for the main stage. He “practiced” his craft in several local talent competitions and always took away the main prize. Still, he wanted more. In the summer of 2006, Lou auditioned for Sony Urban recording artist Lyfe Jennings. Lyfe was floored by Lou’s talent. Only days later, he called Lou and asked that he join him on tour. Lou’s first big break: he was heading to the big city. For this southern gentleman fresh out of Mississippi, life in New York City was a major change. However, Lou welcomed his blossoming success with open arms. He performed with Lyfe Jennings at The Jimmy Kimmel Show, the Sundance Film Festival, and even the Jazz Festival in Jamaica.
After over a year of touring with a platinum-selling artist and many years of writing and performing on the local stage, Lou Writer made the decision to take his talent to the next level. With an unshakable combination of natural ability, work experience, knowledge from a professional mentor, and perseverance, he is making waves in the R&B and hip-hop circuit as a writer and solo artist. Based in the Deep South’s Jackson, Mississippi, Lou Writer is currently working with the local hit-maker, Loksmif AKA Howard Loving an ML.
