Most underground artists can only aspire to have their name mentioned in the same breath as Keys and Knowles — let alone measured on the same scale. But with a breath of fresh air, the southern Illinois native and singer/songwriter, Leah, brings something just as naturally beautiful as those before her: raw talent.

Growing up in the Midwest, Leah honed her musical skills in local choirs and bands, playing flute and bassoon, and earning awards and recognition for her play and musicianship. She especially loved harmonies and hearing all of the parts of the music come together. She began writing her own melodies for voice and flute as a child. At age 15, her father bought her a microphone and recording software, and she began producing and recording her songs for friends and family. Today, Leah holds the same passion for music and continues to write, record, and perform her original songs, as well as co-write with other artists.

Straying from the looped and sampled beats given to her by producers, Leah decided to build music her own way – completely from scratch. Leah’s vocals soar beautifully over impassioned harmonies reminiscent of Keys or Knowles on one of their chart-topping hits. While she is capable of bouncing with the best of them, she isn’t afraid to slow it down with soulful ballads, either. Mixing elements of R&B, jazz, and soul, she provides a unique sound that has been referred to as a “best kept secret” by fans.

Ultimately, Leah hopes for the opportunity to share her music with the world while touching people’s lives in a positive way. “Music is what I love to do, and it’s something I’ll be doing for the rest of my life. Even if I tried to stop, I couldn’t,” she laughs. “I just hope my listeners will continue to enjoy my music as much as I enjoy creating it.” On songwriting, she says, “It’s all about connecting with the soul and relating to other people. Music goes where words sometimes can’t, and everybody loves a good song.”
