Hi!! I'm Lauren Barrett - hope you like my music!
Hey everyone!! I am a singer songwriter from New Orleans. A lot of my early influences are from my dad (who can play a New Orleans piano like the best of them.) I grew up listening to James Booker and Dr. John. So piano was my first instrument, closely followed by guitar.
I moved to Austin for school and had a regular gig on 6th street. My songwriting career began there and inspite of developing a following in Austin, I moved to Los Angeles to see what the West Coast held for me. Through a mutual friend I met Mike Malinin of the Goo Goo Dolls and in additon to producing my second EP entitiled "This is Real" he played live with me in Los Angeles.
I have had a Los Angeles Music Award nomination, won the Alberto VO5 Red hot rising star contest in 2006. With those winnings I made my latest self titiled EP "Lauren Barrett", produced by Marshall Altman. This past January I played at the Blue Bird Cafe in Nashville and have been writing country feverishly since then. I have come back to Nashville a couple of times this year to cowrite with some great people.
I just finished a successful 9 city tour that ran through Texas and Louisiana. Since Hurricane Katrina I had been trying to get back to New Orleans. So it was really great to play in my hometown again. Looks like I might actually be starring in an indie movie, "Oblivious," that will be shot in Atlanta and New Orleans this summer. I am hoping to place some songs in the sound track. I will be uploading more stuff soon.
Let me know what you think of them.

Great gig in August!!
Well, these months go pretty fast – I will be out of town for most of June and hopefully will be shooting a movie in July and part of August… I have been booked to play at the Democratic National Convention in August – sharing the main stage with Cyril Neville and Irma Thomas – 2 great New Orleanian musicians/artists. I’ll also be playing some of the private parties for the convention…yea!!Great opportunity and exposure – I’ll actually get to play originals.

Thanks for being my friend.

I THOUGHT YOU WERE ONLY ABOUT 17 YOURSELF!!!
SHE´S CUTE, AND OBVIOUSLY VERY TALENTED LIKE YOURSELF.
AMAZING TO HAVE TWO BEAUTIFUL TALENTED GIRLS IN ONE FAMILY.
I CAN HEAR SHE´S REALLY GOOD, BUT AS A PRODUCER, I WOULD GO FOR ANOTHER TAKE, BECAUSE THE DISTORTING IS PRETTY BAD AT TIMES, AND TOTALLY DESTROYS HER PERFORMANCE.
BUT I CAN HEAR, SHE´S VERY GOOD.
WISH HER GOOD LUCK FROM ME!!!!

I'm sure you hear this a lot, but your voice sounds superb. (I know it's always good to hear it again.)
Keep up the good work.

Thanks. I really dig your vocals--beautiful voice, and obviously you're a really good songwriter too.
I have to say that Country isn't my favorite genre, but I love your song Texi-cali-rita. It reminds me of some things I can relate to--being from the the Midwest, and living in LA, pursuing your dreams etc. Keep up the great work!
Cheers!
