One of the pioneering bands to acquaint music audience in Istanbul to live shows, kung fu began in 2000 by covering popular rock songs of the time. Their first appearance was in the famous live music club Bronx. Beginning with their regular shows in Buddha Bar, the band established a loyal fan base throughout the following years. They appeared in many Istanbul clubs such as Bronx, Line, Kemancı, Babylon, Hayal Kahvesi and Balans. They also played shows in university festivals: ITU, Istanbul University, Isik, Mimar Sinan, Marmara, Koc, Sabancı, Galatasaray, Kadir Has and Bogazici University. The band has been featured in TV programmes and press. A notable organisation was the "Kadikoy-Taksim Karsilasmasi" during which kung fu had the chance to play numerous shows in various venues with three other bands from Istanbul. Most recently, the band competed in Miller Music Factory 2008 and won #1 in cover category with their interpretation of the Baris Manco song Egri Egri Dogru Dogru. The band consists of Oyku Akgurgen (vocals), Murat Altinoz (guitars), Alp Okcu (bass), and Osman Konuray (drums). They are recently working on a debut album with producer Tugrul Akyuz from the band Vega.
