Vancouver’s latest edgy pop sensation, Kristen Karma is bustin’ out onto the Canadian music scene with a vengeance. Having just completed work on her debut single with production wiz, Dave Thompson of Digital Underdog Productions (High Holy Days, Leslie Carter), Kristen is optimistic about what the future has in store for her. “Music has been a big part of my life. I’ve always wanted to pursue music as a career and I’m looking forward to taking my sound to the world stage.” Kristen states staring thoughtfully into her coffee. “You know, there really isn’t a strong pop music scene here in Vancouver and I really want to bring the genre back to this city at the club level. With any luck, we might see a grassroots resurgence of cool artists that can help strengthen the scene”. Karma manages to convey a deep sense of emotion in her lyrics which she weaves throughout diverse soundscapes that range from the solemn “Goodbye” to the upbeat single “Bustin’ Out”. Drawing influence from artists as diverse as Avril Lavigne, The Veronicas and Lady Gaga, Karma’s songwriting shows elements of each while managing to speak with a voice that is uniquely her own. Simple, yet focused melodies soar atop driving beats to create lush sonic landscapes that remain with the listener long after the song has ended. The artist’s enthusiasm for pop music is infectious and her reverence for her heroes is instantly apparent. “It would be completely amazing to share a stage with Katy Perry or The Veronicas. Pop music is doing really well right now and I’m excited about what the future has in store for me”. When asked about her "sound", Karma simply states "It's edgy pop, I love the simplicity of pop music and I'm feeling a real sense of accomplishment with how the new album is coming together. Working with Dave Thompson has really been inspiring, as we both serve the songs first and foremost. I am really looking forward to taking this sound all over the world." Kristen Karma hits the road this summer in support of her as of yet untitled EP, but in the meantime, be sure to request her single “Bustin’Out” on select radio stations. Karma’s brand of “edgy pop” provides much greater depth and longevity than many other artists within her genre – a remarkable achievement and testament to her abilities as a songwriter. “I’m feeling a real sense of accomplishment. The new album is coming together better than I could’ve hoped for and I’m looking forward to touring this CD across Canada”.
