Channeling Janis Joplin's bluesy soulful rock sound and vibe, the Kings of Spade are a new generation of psychedelic rock-stars. Evolved from your everyday bar hopping performers, Kings have garnered themselves a classic up-and-coming powerhouse group influenced by Joplin, Aretha Franklin, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Hendrix, Bob Marley, and Talib Kweli infusing a sound that mystifies fans. Proclaimed musical soul-mates, Kings of Spade formed in Honolulu, HI, in 2004 around singer/song-writer Kasi Nunes and guitarist Jesse Savio after the two musically connected at hot spot Anna Bannana's. The two, soon added drummer Matt Kato, bassist Max Benoit, turntablist DJ A2Z a.k.a. Mike Morgan, and percussionist Obie 1 to round out their energetic and motley sound. Soul flowing through their veins and oozing out of their pores with every flick, beat, spin, and note, Kings passionately and continuously write and produce their own songs, lyrics and sound. Their debut album "Crave" released September 2009 continues to make huge waves in the islands with hit songs "Boys in the Band," "Funk," and “Crave.” After two years on the road in Los Angeles, playing regularly at Sunset Strip’s Viper Room and the House of Blues, Kings found themselves back in Honolulu just in time to win an opening act contest for International super-stars Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora for the launch of their world-wide tour. The contest featured more than 50 of Hawaii’s top bands, but in the end Honolulu born lyricist Kasi Nunes' infectious wails and vocal range won the hearts of Bon Jovi and the judges with reviews claiming she's "magnetic" to the eyes and ears. Kings of Spade has a new album in the works, but you can catch your copy of “Crave” on their myspace page at www.myspace.com/kingsofspade. For booking contact Jesse Savio at 808.384.8207.
