With a performance background ranging from musical theater to cruise ships to country line-dance bands, Kim Davidson is no stranger to the stage. Seeking a more intimate connection with her audience, and wishing to put her lifelong writing skills to better use, she began songwriting, learned how to play the guitar (in her thirties!), and set out to blaze a trail on the Folk/Acoustic/Singer-Songwriter circuit. Additionally, as the Managing Director of The Oasis Coffeehouse in Waltham, MA from September 2007 to May 2009, she had the pleasure of working behind the scenes with many of the area’s brightest talents. However, the grueling pace of running a fledgling coffeehouse took her away from her own music career—a career she desperately missed. Having left The Oasis, she is thrilled to be back to performing, and to promoting her upcoming full-length debut CD: “Free Therapy.” Her music combines a variety of influences, likened to the genre-blending style of Lyle Lovett by one radio host, and covers a range of topics, often balancing moody, emotional lyrics against upbeat melody lines. She can be tongue-in-cheek funny in one moment and break your heart in the next, her voice lending itself with a range and scope of sound few possess, running the gamut from fragile to sultry to bring-the-house-down and every nuance in between. Recent previous venues include Club Passim (Cambridge, MA), The Burren (Somerville, MA), Harvest Cafe (Hudson, MA), The Bee’s Knees (Morrisville, VT), Finch Coffeehouse (Newburyport, MA); Savoury Lane (Acton, MA); The Center for Arts in Natick, MA; The Nameless Coffeehouse (Cambridge, MA); Johnny D’s (Somerville, MA—as part of Chick Singer Night); Perks Coffeehouse (Norwood, MA), and of course The Oasis Coffeehouse (Waltham, MA) to name a few. She has also been a winner of the Lizard Lounge (Cambridge, MA) Open Mic Challenge. She has proudly shared the stage with Susan Levine, Jenee Halstead, Amy Petty, Lisa Bastoni, Rebecca Katz and others. Kim is a graduate of AMDA, New York and current student of Andover Educators, studying to teach the course “What Every Musician Needs To Know About The Body.” In 2010 she produced a weekly written/video blog called “New Song Weekly,” showcasing her steady writing abilities. Her debut full-length CD “Free Therapy” is slated for release in 2011.
