Kayla has been performing oldies music since the age of 9. Now at 15 she is making a transformation from Kayla Starr, the Oldies singer, to Kayla Stockert, Singer, Songwriter and Musician.
On Kayla’s ninth birthday she went to sing Why Do Fools Fall In Love by Frankie Lymon at her local street fair. The crowd that had been mingling at the festival gathered around and cheered for more. Kayla performed Goody Goody and Gee Whiz to an enthusiastic audience.
Kayla received invitations to perform at many other events, and soon word got out about the little girl in the poodle skirt. Kayla was then approached by promoter Norman Wasserman to be his opening act at most of his “Oldies/Doo Wop Shows”. Kayla “Starr” was born and continued to perform oldies. During that time she had the privilege of performing alongside many of her musical inspirations. She has shared the stage with Johnny Maestro & The Brooklyn Bridge, Gloria Gaynor, Donny Most from Happy Days, Lovin Spoonful, and many other "oldies" legends. She was also thrilled to meet and spend time with Connie Francis who assisted Kayla with learning Italian for her song, Mama. Kayla has also opened up for Big Time Rush/Cody Simpson, Jillian Jensen of X-Factor & Frankie Zulferino
Having become a seasoned pro at a young age, Kayla has already performed at places like the Dunkin Donuts Center in Rhode Island, the Highline Ballroom, the Apollo Theater in New York City, The Friars Club, Montauk Music Festival, Nikon Jones Beach Theater Side Stage, and at other large venues.
Some highlights of Kayla’s career thus far: being a finalist in the televised MSG Varsity Talent Show; being a contestant on FOX’s X Factor performing for Simon Cowell, Demi Lovato and L.A Reid in front of thousands; winning a listening session at Sony Records and named "Global Emerging Artist”; being one of a handful picked out of 40,000 kids to audition for a show called Majors & Minors and performing the National Anthem for Governor Andrew Cuomo.
In the summer of 2012, Kayla collaborated with The Como Brothers Band to write and record the three original songs that make up their debut EP Castles in the Sand. Her songs off “Castles in the Sand” continue to play on over 50 independent radio stations worldwide.
Most recently, Kayla has begun writing songs on her own and working hard to combine her love of oldies with more contemporary sounds she has dubbed, “Retro Infused Pop” music.
While not performing, Kayla is a normal teenager who enjoys the guitar, piano, song writing, texting, shopping, cooking, makeup, XBOX, musical theater and Geocaching. She is inspired by Amy Winehouse, Taylor Swift, My Chemical Romance, Connie Francis, Kay Starr and Frankie Lymon just to name a few.
Kayla is frequently involved in childhood cancer organizations and events, volunteering wherever they need her. She lends her voice to Songs of Love, an organization that creates personalized CD'S for children with tough medical conditions. Most recently she has partnered with ReverbNation & Music For Good, giving 50% of her ReverbNation Song Sales to Love Hope Strength, which builds awareness of cancer needs and supports cancer centers globally. Love Hope Strength recently has a new campaign called “Get on the List,” encouraging people to sign up to become possible bone marrow donors.
