Kate Tucker and the Sons of Sweden hail from the Northwest corner of Seattle Washington amidst the fisherman and sailors of Ballard. They play lush indie pop with shimmering melodies, sparkling soundscapes, and beats like a train on a track.
The group formed in the fall of 2006 to work on songs that Kate had written for a new record. Their self-titled debut was recorded and produced by Ryan Hadlock (Blonde Redhead, Metric, The Gossip), at Bear Creek Studio in February 2007. It features Nic Danielson of the Kindness Kind and Seattle folk luminary Damien Jurado.
The record was released October 30, 2007 to significant critical acclaim. Itunes featured the album on their Indie Singer-Songwriters page, Starbucks added the record to their in-store playlists, and “Faster than Cars Drive” topped the blog charts on Elbows. The record went on to chart CMJ stations across the country.
Named by Sound Magazine as "One of 10 Bands to Watch for 2008," Kate Tucker and the Sons of Sweden are taking the show on the road. They kicked off their spring tour with a stop at SXSW. They've just returned from the east coast tour and plan to tour the west coast in August. New songs are in the works for the follow-up album they will record later this summer.
