KASE COBAIN AND HIS UNRULY NEW MUSIC Kase Cobain, the alter ego of rapper Keary Kase, is a progressive recording artist. The first single, "Diamonds & Guns", from his forthcoming untitled LP is what Kase describes as "a bridge passing over hip hop's current stagnant, redundant sound and saturated market into an open stage of sound". D&G's 80's new wave style lyrics smoothly slip in and out of cadences leaving the after taste of Smokey Robinson, Simon Le Bon and Sade. The music is definitely a euro pop/ club situation with a spin. Since it's December 2008 release, Diamonds & Guns singularity has influenced major artists and made a contribution to the direction of tomorrow's music. Kase is in step with if not leading the way for artists who refuse to be placed into a box which doesn't accurately represent music in its current condition. He says " Kids are listening to everything and we're gonna play it all. You can’t create enough genres to categorize all the styles of music out now so it is what it is (music) and that’s all it is. I’m in a hip hop group, I play in a rock band and I sing electro pop. Where do I fit in"? Kase's "no rules" approach attracted the attention of Skip Saylor, a prominent producer and studio owner in Los Angeles. "Kase is the castle and I’m the groundskeeper....or something like that" says Skip. The unlikely pair have been piecing together Kase's debut album much like you would a custom motorcycle. With an experienced builder (Skip) overseeing the project and a few talented and able hands, unfitted parts can be modified to fit wherever you dream them to. This is exactly what Skip and Kase are up to. Common elements on this project are sampled drums, live drums, keyboard synths, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, bass, violin and electric violin often played with a distortion pedal. The collection’s overall vibe is very cinematic and picturesque. Ville De Lumiere (City Of Lights) a dreamer’s anthem, actually places you in a conversation with the artist as he invites you to join him on the narrow and twisted road to success in the big city. "Future of style/ jewel of the now/ cast your spell/ it’s all on the line/you live or you die /but what the hell." Skip says "Kase Cobain's music isn't a sound or style, it’s a mood." You don't listen to this music you feel it. Kase's experimental yet polished sound is relative to that of Lady Gaga, Kanye West and Lil Wayne. He openly admits to studying and even mimicking the vocal styles of HR (Bad Brains), Josh Homme (Queens Of The Stone Age), Minnie Ripperton, Billy Holiday and Debbie Harry.
