“Kandy... an Incredibly intense firehose blast of pure estrogen” “A natural explosive talent, Kandy systmatically owns the room with her raw emotion, blazing eyes, and take no prisoners attitude.” “A multi-faceted singer...blending her amazing range from melodic to agressive...Edgey rock to sultry blues..Kandy’s always an engaging, intenesely passionate and gripping performer.” “Equally amazing acoustically or with a band her voice is one that stops people in their tracks to take notice and listen.” About Kandy... With a deep passion and desire to sing, write, and perform Kandy discovered very early on she had a huge voice waiting to be unleashed. Her first vocal coach marveled at her exuberant and already bold operatic voice coming from such a young girl. Throughout her life, Kandy has been on a continuous discovery of who she is as a singer songwriter and ultimately realized she’s a multi-faceted performer able to incorporate and channel everything from blues, rock, rockabilly, metal and punk styles. Kandy a native Chicagoan fronted several Chicago bands in the early 1990’s, but by 1996 Kandy yearned for a change of pace and decided to leave the midwest. By 1997 this city girl found herself amidst he mountains of Lake Tahoe, California. Kandy fell in love with her serene surroundings and her passion to sing and perform followed suit. She was fortunate to meet an amazing and diverse group of musicians who ultimately formed their self described “pshychohippabillycountrypunk” band, Fire Chicken. Kandy their fearless and crowd engaging front woman enticed crowds with her kitschy country punk crooning to her alter ego extreme rock persona... “A foul mouth super vixen that warbles and chirps like a pack of Coyotes lying chase to a panic stricken marmot.” Fans alike marveled at her amazing stage antics and exuberant energy packed performances. By popular demand the band decided to produce and record their self titled, Fire Chicken CD in 2000. A pinnacle moment in the band’s tenure was in 2001 when their original song Kenny Bites was featured in the motion picture 100 Mile Rule. Soon after, however Fire Chicken disbanded after a successful 5 year stint. Kandy took a break from music but her constant fire and desire inside to sing and perform found her exploring new projects. By mid 2000 she moved on to front several rock metal rock projects in the Lake Tahoe and Reno, Nevada area namely Vicious Truth, Drop 9, and Puppetree. In 2007, Drop 9 was a featured band in the National Project Independent tour -Reno, Nevada showcase. Judge’s accolades highly praised Kandy’s original performance style as, “A unique blend of aggression meets melodic vocalization meshed with an edgey metal sound ... A welcomed and fresh vocal approach, as opposed to the ‘gutteral’ scream type vocals always dominating the metal genre.” Kandy has won several singing competitions in the past few years. Most notable was a competition where her fans were stoked to see her unleash an uncanny rendition of Iron Maiden’s Run to the Hills, once again spotlighting her incredible dichotomy of metal and operatic singing aesthetics and engaging performance factor. Currently Kandy’s projects include an acoustic duo partnership with guitarist/singer song writer Rak Dattlebeck. Kandy met Rak in the spring of 2009 and together they formed forces as the power duo Rak Kandy. Performing their original rock and striped down blues tunes along with an eclectic selection of covers, including everything from Etta James to Led Zeppelin, they please crowds where ever they perform. Kandy also currently fronts their newly formed band, Maxell. Maxell although new on the scene incorporates a collective of local musicians with a sound best described as groove funk with a twist of gritty blues rock n’ roll, a perfect platform for Kandy to dig back into her deep Chicago roots blending all her vocal stylings with this soulful bluesy rock sound.
