In a genre of music that is over saturated with sexist content, J Philippe is coming to bring a more feminine point of view to Hip-Hop. J Philippe was born Jasmine Philippe on March 13th 1987 in New Jersey, where she still resides. Born from two natives of Haiti, her music is highly influenced by her heritage. She started dabbling with music writing her freshmen year of college. By the time she graduated in 2009, she was a seasoned veteran at activities such as recording in the studio, performing for live audiences at many venues in the Tri-State Area, collaborating/networking with other artists, as well as promoting her music on anarray of social mediums (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc.) While continuing to build her musical foundation, J Philippe released her first mixtape on May 17, 2010 entitled “J. Philippe Presents the Mixtape.” This mixtape was well received and facilitated her growth as a bona fide artist. She will continue releasing projects and records that give listeners better insight on her blossoming musical style. Her music concentrates on the joys of being a woman, but also the struggles, temptations, and pressure of that title. When describing her music style, she says it’s “Michelle Obama with a Hip-Hop Aura because it is sophisticated and intelligent like the wife of a president, mixed with the rawness of hip hop culture.” Her goal is to inspire others with the power of words. She is developing a legacy that empowers other women and shows men that a woman can do anything they can do, and more! J Philippe wants to be the voice for thought provoking, intelligent, and outspoken ladies. Her music has an underlining feminist message embedded with insightful lyrical content and a persuasive personality. Every song she creates has a theme and a message behind it. The listener can walk away from her music with a better understanding of her individuality, as well as a new level of confidence to embrace their own.
