Growing up with two older sisters early on her music was influenced by such artists ranging from Billy Joel and Carol King to The Who and Heart. As she developed her style she was later influenced by artists ranging from Indigo Girls and Melissa Etheridge to Shawn Colvin and Mary Chapin Carpenter. Wanting to learn the ins and the outs of the music industry, Jolene went to the Institute of Audio Research in New York to learn engineering. Her next insight was an internship at Mike’s Artist’s Management and First Warning Records. Here, she learned not only the management side of the industry, but how a small label just starting out helps new artists develop and get their music heard. During this same period, Jolene also worked her own musical craft in Manhattan and developed a small following in New York City. Encouraged by friends and family, she uprooted herself and moved to Atlanta seeking the friendly musicianship she had heard about from friends living there. Her music can be described as acoustic based, but does not pigeon hole her exclusively to that folk genre. She works rock n roll and dabbles in the blues. Her songwriting style is both personal and universal. Taken from the pages of her life with content we can all relate to. If you ask her she would call herself a songwriter first. Lyrics have always been the main focus and the songs her way of delivering the message. Her first cd, “For Love and Spite” was recorded with her best friend Alicia Daniel. Jolene describes the experience as one of the best in her life. “Being able to do what you love. Work with one of the people you think is the most talented musicians you’ve ever known, who happens to also be one of your closest friends, what more could you want?”
