Pat Ramsey is out of the Hospital...

Hello to all,

Pat Ramsey was released from the hospital Saturday. He’s doing much better and wishes to thank all of you who were so kind with your thoughts and prayers. It meant so much and he was touched.

He’s back on his feet, moving around, and getting his life back to normal.

Update on Pat Ramsey

Pat is doing better today, but he still has a long way to go. He wants to let everyone know he’s a fighter, and he’s going to do his best to get better. All his readings are getting better every day, so that’s good!!

He's being a good patient, and is treated with great care.
He feels all your love and wanted to thank all of you

The Smokin' Mojo Kings, CD Review - Rootstime (Belgium)

What we have here is a very young band, even their press-infosheet that comes with the cd in a plain white paper cover is veryshort. “Thanks for your interest. We have been together for one year and are already working on our second cd. All of the songs are original compositions. Thanks again.” Believe it or not, but thats the way we like it. Let the music speak for itself.! No long mysterious info that tells you nothing, no pages full of coming and going musicians (not a good sign anyway) or pages full of names with the headliners of festivals on which they were the opening act at ten in the morning, while the public was limited to the stage crew and the soundman. No, nothing of this, no nonsense, listen to our music please and tell us what you think. Well, guys (Full line-up mentioned in original) for a debut it’s not bad at all ! The sound these four men from Fort Madison,Iowa bring us is funky and special. This is not your average 12-bar bluesband playing only the usual well know traditionals. No, as they already mentioned themselves, all own material and with an original “Smokin Mojo” signature. When I heard the first song:”Shut Yo Yap”,and not having looked at the infosheet yet, I presumed that at least the 2 vocalists were black, because it sounded so funky and real. In this song they are argueing a bit and their “rap” sounded so authentic and black. But no, when I looked at the press sheet, I saw four caucasians, well, thats not the way they sounded. Most of the songs have a real funky bluesfeel, with guitarplayer Dennis and Jim’s harp up front. A very thight rhythm section (John Wentzien /bass & Eric Bartholomew/drums) puts down a strong funky beat for them over which they can play their solos. Especially in “Blues Gutter” the result is teriffic, in my opinion this is the highlight of this cd. One minor remark I have to make, this cd is a little bit short, only 30 minutes for 8 songs, I would be a lot happier if it had taken double the time. Sometimes I’m happy when a cd is only 30 or 40 minutes, and the end comes as a relief, but not this time. So, luckily this 30 minutes are well spent and The Smokin Mojo Kings have given us a nice, but small bussiness-card with this debut. And we don’t worry, if we can believe the info (and we do) the second will arrive soon. Can’t wait!
