For most musicians, the list of achievements reads like a career wish list fulfilled; a list that would have most resting on their musical laurels as they ride off into the proverbial sunset: being voted Chicago's top drummer two consecutive years, signing a recording contract on a major label (Hollywood Records), co-producing his band’s major label debut album with producers Joe Barresi and Rob Cavallo, achieving Gold record sales status and a #7 Billboard hit, and touring along with some of the most popular recording artists of the 1990s. But for Chicago multi-instrumentalist, recording artist, and singer-songwriter John L. Sullivan, his best musical moments are yet to come. Coming from a long lineage of talented musicians originating in Ireland, John grew up in a house filled with music. He would learn to play all the musical instruments found in his home, including drums, bass, guitar, harmonica, and keyboards. John would also listen intently to all the great rock and roll albums contained in his dad’s record collection, and absorb many of the sounds and styles he heard, which would inform his own songwriting to a great extent. John would get the opportunity to use all these skills in his bands such as ‘Loudmouth’ (Hollywood Records) and industry favorites ‘The Digs’. For John, being the primary songwriter and playing drums in his bands always meant that someone else was singing his lyrics or playing integral parts of his songs. From this point on, John decided that he would take on vocal responsibilities along with his guitar playing to express himself more directly, and so John decided to put his own band together with musicians hand picked to deliver a Rock N' Roll experience that is second to none. John L. Sullivan has turned the corner in his solo career and is creating music that has a fond respect for both Rock and Roll’s legendary acts (such as Tom Petty, Led Zeppelin, and The Beatles) and forward-thinking envelope-pushers (U2, Radiohead, Jack White) while still incorporating John's own fresh, unique perspective that gives his music a modern, worldly appeal. Keep your ears open in 2011 for John L. Sullivan - if you haven't already heard some of his music in soundtracks or on mainstream U.S. radio stations, it's quite certain that you will sometime soon!
