John Henry Olthoff is a singer and songwriter living in the Queens, NY neighborhood of Jackson Heights. Sometime after mastering the art of referring to himself in the third person, he wrote that his songs are at once sad, funny, serious, light-hearted, and deeper than they might appear. They are country and folk songs, sung tongue-in-cheek, but not so tongue-in-cheek that he can’t get the words out.
So please come on and listen to songs about suburban sprawl, the travails of playing music around the big city, the sad circadian rhythms of small town living, friendships of geography and convenience, and many other topics, intended to raise eyebrows and to challenge y’all to think and to laugh.
Two of his songs, “Broken Toy” and “Buick Skylark” were named Finalists in the 2007 Song of the Year Contest (www.songoftheyear.com).
Also, John Henry released his 7-song EP, “Buick Skylark”, on itunes in January 2008, and he plans to record and release another record later this year.
