Rose Theory is a dynamic alternative-groove rock band hailing from Rhode Island. They have been a part of the RI rock scene for the past year and have built a solid reputation for great music and a powerful performance style. Having played nearly all of the popular music venues in the area, including JR's, Fish Co., The Wheelhouse, The Blackstone, AS220, The Beach House, and many others, they are now looking to expand their reach to the rest of the New England area. They were recently written up on "Mic Control", a Boston based blog. "The entire band has a tight, very rock n’ roll feel to them, which after only a year seems to be developing quite nicely... From what I have heard of Rose Theory’s studio tracks, I can already tell that seeing them in a live setting would be one hell of a show." Band members include Vocalist- Matt Kiely, Guitarist- John Austin, Bassist- Kipp Lawrence, and Drummer- Kenny Pinault. Each of the four band member comes from different musical backgrounds, which give Rose Theory its eclectic sound. The bands history dates back to 2007, when John set out to start a new band. John is a self taught guitarist who has been playing since the age of 16. He has worked on several different projects and has accolades to back himself up. In 2001 he won a 92 Pro FM song writing contest and was slated to head out to LA to meet with record labels and producers but never made it out there as he had a family tragedy that kept him in RI. Instead he focused on perfecting his craft here and began to write a catalog of songs. He had met Kenny through a previous project and asked him if he'd like to start something new. Kenny started playing drums at the age of 8 and studied with Hollis Higgins for 5 years. Hollis is an extremely talented, well-versed drummer and composer that opened Kenny to many styles of music including jazz and fusion on top of Kenny's influences which came mostly from rock. A true musician at heart, rather than attend college Kenny spent his tuition money on a custom DW kit which is getting more use than his degree probably ever would have. Kenny contacted Kipp, who he had jammed on and off with and the band was well on its way to being formed. With influences ranging from west coast punk, to funk, to Motown and back; Kipp began playing the bass during middle school in order to become the final piece in his brother's band. Fortunately it stuck, and he has been conjoining rhythm and harmony ever since. The final piece was finding a vocalist. After several failed attempts at finding a good vocal match for the band, Matt came along to complete the puzzle. Matt has been singing for as long as he can remember. He has taken voice lessons since the age of 8, most recently with notable vocal instructor Cari Cole. He studied with Cari for five years in New York City, where he was living and working as a singer and actor before moving to RI.. Rose Theory has accomplished many of their goals in song writing, music production, performing, and marketing. They are now looking to move to the next level in all of these areas and continue to have a blast while doing so. They have several specific goals for the coming year. They have begun to break into the college scene, having performed on Bryant College radio and have done an on campus concert and are actively looking for opportunities at other colleges. They are developing their reach through their Myspace page, which has blown up in the number of visits and song plays in the last few months. They are also aiming to hit the Boston music scene in a big way. They've already made a dent in that goal by playing a major gig at the Hard Rock Cafe in Boston. You can definitely count on seeing more of Rose Theory in the future.
