Jimmie Brown is an authentic artist with a rare instinct for creating warm, meaningful, and passionate music. His music is dedicated to the most powerful force in the universe, Love. He seamlessly weaves together his smooth baritone vocals with mellow and driving instrumentals to paint portraits of love that touch the hearts of listeners. Telling the endless stories of love, his music speaks to a broad audience that includes anyone with a heart. His voice has been compared to R&B legends like Luther Vandross and Brian Mcknight, who he credits as some of his top influences, along with Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, Carl Thomas, and Boyz II Men.
Jimmie was born in Detroit, MI, the original home of Motown Records and the birthplace of the “Motown” sound. Growing up in Detroit, he was exposed to all the classics of that era. He would acknowledge the sounds of the Temptations and Supremes by dancing to the music in his mother’s womb. He began entertaining friends and family as early as the age of four and soon joined the choir of the church where his family attended. Outside of the church, he learned to use writing as a place to express his inner thoughts and feelings. He utilized a vivid imagination and impressive vocabulary to write poetry and short stories. He soon decided to combine his love of music with his talent for writing and at the age of 14, Jimmie wrote his first song.
An even deeper love of music was found as a member of the Tuskegee University "Golden Voices" Concert Choir. He spent five years as a part of this historic group and received extensive training in several vocal techniques including breathing, blending, harmonizing, and tempo. He was also introduced to several styles of music such as spirituals, classical, opera, and foreign language pieces. Employing the skills that were acquired, he performed with several groups while in college, including the university men's quartet and other local groups. During those years he participated in many talent competitions, showcases and other shows.
Jimmie is known for his intense and sincere love of music. When asked about it he says, “Music is my best friend. It’s been there for me at the heights of happiness, the depths of sorrow, and everywhere in between. I couldn’t live without it. Each of us shares a special relationship with music that is unique to the individual, yet relates to all of us. It is one of the most precious resources we have and should be cherished and preserved with the utmost respect and care”.
On a professional level, Jimmie Brown aspires to become a world renowned singer/songwriter with a fan base that includes all ages, races, and musical tastes. He writes sincerely from the heart with intentions of creating a legacy of music that literally changes the world. By promoting love and understanding at every level, he hopes that his music can bring us all together, healing broken relationships and nurturing new ones. On a human level, Jimmie Brown looks to serve his fellow man through music. He was once told that he sang “like he was born to do it”, and he believes this is true. He aims to be the vocal instrument that he was created to be.
