Jay is twenty-two years old and is a 2005 graduate of Detroit High School of Performing Arts. He is also an alumnus of Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit, a national touring performance troupe. He is currently a sophomore at Kentucky State University with a major in music education. Jay-R began singing at age eleven when he performed his very first solo in a play called, The Harlem Renaissance. Jay-r continued developing his musical talent by taking vocal and piano lessons at Moss Academy of Music. He put in many hours of study (DSA and Mosaic), performances and talent competitions. Jay's awards include the Spirit of Detroit Award, Artist of Tomorrow in 2001, Spirit of Detroit Award, 1st place multiple in the state and 1st place Forensic Team in the state in 2004. He is the 1st place winner of Passions Jamboree, Detroit Public Library WB20 Teen Talent Showcase, and a multiple winner of the Jabberwocks singing and dancing division. He has performed with Kathleen Battle, Sweet Honey in the Rock, Al Green, Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) and many others. While in the Mosaic Youth Theatre program Jay-R traveled to Dakar, Senegal for two weeks to fellowship with JFK choir. When Jay-R steps to the stage expect the unexpected, his stage presence captivates the audience and his powerful performances get them standing to there feet. "Performing is my destiny. My ultimate goal is to plant a positive message in the hearts of my fans and educate them through my music." Jay sings, writes, dance and acts, he is the total package. With his gift from God, fun personality, looks and determination, he is destined for stardom. His musical influences are Marvin Gaye, Usher, Duron from 112 and many others.
