Affectionately known within the local showcase circuit as ‘Vokalz,’ Jay Lamar hails originally from sunny Orlando, Florida and brings to the stage and music industry an invigorating range of versatility. His passion for the traditional soul of R&B is evident in his smooth portrayals as a balladeer. Yet, the skill with which he performs the vocal acrobatics of the more eclectic rhythms of today’s soulful genre has left audiences hanging onto his every note. Surprisingly, the buck does not stop there. This supposed “crooner” has an upper register full of color and control that illuminates every arena.
In the early years of 2000, Jay Lamar clinched a host of showcase titles both in his hometown and in the tri-state area where he now resides of Baltimore, Maryland. To include, Baltimore Up-and-Coming Artist Winner, Morgan State Talent Showcase Winner, and many other minor accolades. Reminiscent of his collegiate years, he recalls the rewarding experiences of performing and traveling with the world-renown Morgan State University Choir. His joy for the art of singing and entertaining crowds has led him to perform across the country, in Montreal, Toronto, the Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands.
Today this singer, songwriter and entrepreneur is poised to strike the industry anew--infusing his performances with a capella introductions and a charisma that tells audiences that he is no newcomer. Brace yourself for the julz [pronounced jəw-əls] of vibrant melodies that have yet to come.
