“Future of Hip Hop”…JAY DOLLAR. Born
Jimmy Hicks, Jr. in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Jay
grew up in a small community which, like many
parts of his small city, was overrun with drugs
and crime. Jay made it a point in his life not to
become a product of his environment. He
always excelled in school and in sports. During
his senior year in high school he was not only
the class valedictorian, but he was also co-
captain of the varsity basketball team and
student council president. Two things that
always stuck with Jay were his entrepreneurial
spirit and his love for music, which is why his
dream was to naturally start his own record
label. This would not be a simple task. With
few to none of his peers believing that he
would succeed in the cut-throat world of the
music industry, Jay set out to do it all on his
own and founded BluffRock Entertainment.
Noticing that today’s hip hop fan and artist
alike had a unique fascination with the world of
drug trafficking, Jay Dollar released the Lyrical
Dope Mixtape Series under his BluffRock
Entertainment which compared his fans’
addiction to his songs and lyrics to that of a
drug addiction. With songs that glorified more
legal forms of hustling, other songs that de-
glorified the hip hop world’s love for all things
Bling, and generally promoting uplifting the
African-American society, Jay Dollar took a
different route to get his message across.
“Living in the environment that I did, having the
type of people around me that I did, and having
the type of parents I have helped me to be the
artist I am today,” says Jay Dollar. “I made
straight A’s in school during the day and hung
out with drug dealers and gang members at
night. I’ve witnessed both sides of the struggle
and that has helped me to speak on several
different topics from several different angles
unlike the majority of rappers that are out right
now. That is why I am the future of hip hop!”
With his unique wordplay, creative metaphors,
and insightful view on the world, Jay Dollar
makes for an extremely exciting and fresh new
MC to look out for. With his tenacity, uncanny
mind for business, and undeniable
determination, Jimmy Hicks, Jr. makes for one
hell of a record executive. When you put the
two together, Jay Dollar and BluffRock
Entertainment will definitely be a force to be
reckoned with.
