Currently hailing from Germany, but born and raised in the states, this is my first attempt to put my music out there and see what happens. Music has always been in my life, and has always been that "dream" of mine, to someday make a living off of this six-string and these words.
I grew up in a musical family. I always remember my mother and father playing together, she on harp and he on a Gibson guitar as I fell asleep to their beautiful music. I grew up listening to U2 and Pearl Jam, wondering if I will ever be like them, and also listening to NPR every day, enjoying the calmness of Celtic music, Jazz, and Opera.
I left the house, fresh out of high school when I was 17, joined the military for some discipline and self-confidence, and ended up everywhere in the world. From Korea, to every state in the US, to Germany, and even Iraq, I have poured out my soul to pages and pages of a musical journal. In 2004, after one year in Iraq, I set off hoping for a chance to strike it big, but life had me by the wrist and forced me to ensure that I was always taking care of my loved ones: my beautiful wife, and my three adorable children.
But now, I have also realized, through my second tour here in Iraq, that life doesn't last long (as we always know in the back of our minds), and my time will soon end. I want to step into that spotlight like I did before and feel the rush of a dream come true. I want to reach out and touch souls with song once again and make them smile.
To the ones who have all the chance in the world to accomplish everything you ever wanted in life, take this thought into your head: I am a Soldier, someone who sacrifices everything he loves for the benefit of others. I do it not only for my family and my brothers in arms, but also for you, the ones who are not affected by the stench of war and pain. Take these things for granted. They are yours for the taking.
Until next time, enjoy!
