James Alan Gourley's blog

This month's entries

Been away most part of first week of Sept..probably just as well cos I was getting a bit phased with the politics..But I have faith in Ourstage and know it is a difficult thing to try and improve what is already an excellent site..good on you Daniel et al!

Unsure what to enter really..thanks to all for voting for my “The Light At The End Of The Tunnel” ..I’ve kept it in solo inst this month cos it was brilliant to get a top ten in its first month’s entry and basically I’ve left it in again as a few people have emailed me and become fans cos it was their first exposure to my music..A top ten on here is a total honour in itself!

Secondly I’m sticking with Map To The Morning in male singer/songwriter. Cos its different to a lot of the stuff on that channel, cos it’s a song many of my fans/friends adore and because it’s the emitomy of what I think my music should sound like at it’s best..Dreamy, atmospheric, other-wordly – plus its a rare love song from my pen!

I entered “Legacy” in Folk. Folk rock a la Nick Drake (the finest of them all). There seems to be some differential on here between what defines folk music. A lot of the entries in Folk are also country, americana, . Legacy is the epitomy of British folk, folk rock. Very simple but powerful lyrics, (hopefully) great fingerstyle and a song that I truly believe in. One of the most haunting songs you will hear on Ourstage I guarantee!!! (pass the tissues)

My three recommendations this month you take a listen to are Jonathan Devil, Vonne Andring and ohhh,,,,,,,,,,,GOD!!!!! i cant choose!!! so MANY talented artists!!

nope i cant choose..all on my friends list that are musicians and peeps I’m a fan of are excellent! Check em ALL out!

Gonna blog some poetry on here soon..If you like my songs/lyrics hopefully you’ll like my spoken word! Kinda Charles Bukowski meets The Ramones meets Arthur O Shaughnessy meets Oscar Wilde meets Balck Sabbath meets Nick Drake meets Stephen Hawking meets Salvidor Dali meets Edward Lear…

Wishing you all my best

from rain drenched Glasgow …

(Any big buck investors from warmer climbs – my music is for SALE!!)

Stay safe amigos

My music this month

Hi there good people of Ourstage!

Firstly I’d like to thank again all who helped me win Guitar Solo channel for July with my instrumental “Portencross”. In light of the new “three entries only” rule I’ve retired this piece as you can’t really ask for more than to win a channel.

This month I’ve selected another instrumental “The Light At The End Of The Tunnel?” in Solo Instrumental channel. This piece was inspired by a rather unusual thought I had of the last few minutes of a person’s life – a soundtrack to the prelude to death – The Light At The End Of The Tunnel being (perhaps hence the question mark in the title) the end of this world and the promise of the next one – the transformation to a better place and the freeing of the soul from mortal constraints…well thats what was in my head when it came together! – It is in an alternate tuning (as indeed are all my entries this month – the same one in fact – available on request)and includes some of my favourite chord changes I’ve written and the distinctive and unusual downward chord progression towards the end of the piece. It’s the third track on my solo slbum “Ten Miles Out Of Midnight” and the piece I normally open my live set with (dry ice aplenty for this one lol!). Spooky, thought-provoking and unnerving is best how I sum up the feel of this particular composition.

Second up I’ve entered “Map To The Morning” in Male Singer/Songwriter. This is a piece I am tremendously proud of and a song that has received a lot of internet airplay via several podcasts. Its a song about the yearning for innocence lost, magical places and things that exist only in our imagination but that we wish were real and the desire to be able to slip away from the harsh realities of modern life to an enchanted place and time with your true soulmate. May sound a bit wishy-washy but I think it works and the lyrics are among my favourites that I have written. It is the second track on my album. It has become a favourite of my fans on the live circuit and I now tend to keep this piece to finish off my set or use as an encore. Dreamy, other-worldly, happy – a spiritual love song is how I best describe this composition.

My third entry this month is another song from “Ten Miles Out Of Midnight” – track number nine on the album called “Legacy” in Acoustic channel. This song is about a subject many musicians, artists, poets and other creatives will identify with – leaving something behind – a legacy that will live on after their own deaths. Around the time I wrote the vast majority of songs for the album I suffered a trapped nerve in my back which left me with loss of 50% of feeling down my right arm and hand. Being left-handed this is my fretboard hand and I was worried it would subsequently deteriorate to a level where I would be unable to play the guitar atall. So I was determined to get into the studio and record my album before it got any worse and “Legacy” is a very personal reflection of the fear that I would not leave anything behind should I become unable to play the guitar. (thankfully it did not affect my dexterity although I still have limited feel in my right hand) It is also a bigger reflection on my solo album overall – To record an album or write a book is something many people dream of doing but surprisingly few do and if I die tomorrow then at least I recorded an album that could keep my memory alive to friends, family and fans alike. The main melody of this song is one that I’ve had in my head for years and it was the last song I finished prior to recording. There is no chorus as such in “Legacy” – just three simple verses again with lyrics I am very proud of. It is a sad song, yet a happy song – Wistful, reflective, melancholic yet peaceful – My “Legacy” is my music. My last will and testament – my thanks to my Creator (if one exists – I’m agnostic) and those that raised me – My attempt at immortality (in its most humblest of meanings) by simpy leaving behind my songs, my music, my life in a reflection of thanks and humility. (sniff – pass the tissues lol)

I hope you enjoy these three songs this month. I still have some others on my playlist including twice Top Ten winner “The Things In The Attic”. I may dust that down in future months and try to get a channel prize win with it! If you do enjoy my music feel free to leave a comment, add me as a friend, join my fanclub and recommend me to others who may find something they enjoy in my music and words. I am happy to try and answer any questions you may want to ask – Fire away!

Wishing you all my very best and good luck to all my friends this month and every month!

Oh I just remembered – I am going to post a regular blog every month from now on including three recommendations of artists I think are exceptional here on Ourstage and who’s music you may enjoy if you like mine. This month I suggest you check out Erick Baker(superb singer/songwriter), Jennifer Thomas (stunning pianist/composer) and Whitewolf (Silverwolf – beautiful Native American compositions)..You will find many more talented, talented artists in my friends list. Check em all out!

Peace to all

Alan

Liars Edge Lyrics

in no particular order….lyrics to most Liars Edge songs written by me..as sung

Jaded
This is the day when I get it together
Then I give it away
This is the nightmare – Here I go
Now I’m back on my own
Another victim of the child inside today
Another extra in a real-time passion-play
Another night to demonise
My own mind de-sanitises
And all the things that I’ve never done
Left me a man with a loaded gun
And every day is a battlefield
I go to war with my own mind – It’s hell inside

But it’s just another day of my life
Just another twist of the knife
Only 24 hours till it ends
And then I’ll start it all over again
Just another room with no view
Its just another turn of the screw
Just another meaningless haze
But I guess it’s just one of those days

Those were the nights
When we looked at the world
And we put it to rights
That was a daydream
And here I am now
Sleepwalking through life
I’m catatonic on parade
Its just a side-show stall charade
Another low on the high trapeze
I’m in the ring and I’m on my knees now
Tie me up and I might conform
Whip me down and I might perform
Cos every day is a circus show
It’s up and down and I’m low – I’m tired – I’m high – I’m wired

But it’s just another day of my life
It’s just another twist of the knife
24 hours till it ends
And then I’ll start it all over again
It’s just another room with no view
It’s just another turn of the screw
Just another meaningless haze
But I guess it’s just one of those days

Another night to demonise
My own mind de-sanitises
And all the things that I’ve never done
Left me a man with a loaded gun
And every day is a battlefield
I go to war with my own mind – It’s hell inside my head

It’s just another day of my life
It’s just another twist of the knife
24 hours till it ends
And then I’ll start it all over again
It’s just another room with no view
Its just another turn of the screw
Just another meaningless haze
But I guess it’s just one of those days

It’s just another day of this life
It’s just another twist of the knife
Another 24 hours till it ends
And then I’ll start it all over again
I’ts just another room with no view
Its just another turn of the screw
It’s just another meaningless haze
But I guess it’s just one of those
I guess it’s just one of those
I guess it’s just one of those
I guess it’s just one of those days

Wild
Wild – Wild – It’s gone wild
Wild – Wild – It’s gone wild

I live in a word gone crazy
I live in a world gone wild
Not a place for amazing grace
Not a playground for the meek and the mild
And all they ever want is your money
Cos all they need to take is control
I heard it said that the price on your head
Is higher than the price of your soul

But I’m not going to give up
I’m not going to give in
I’m just going to get out there
I’m not going to give up
I’m not going to give in
I’m just going to get out there

Well I can’t look at you without smiling
No laughter when I look at myself
Seems to me that it’s plain to see
That life is only bad for your health
But everybody’s playing the same game
And you have to know the rules to belong
They cast the runes and they call the tunes
But no-one knows the words of the song

But I’m not going to give up
I’m not going to give in
I’m just going to get out there
I’m not going to give up
I’m not going to give in
I’m just going to get out there

So here’s another maniac Monday
And some of us will lie down and die
Some will rise but close their eyes
And forget about the how and the why
And if you’re only looking for answers
Well – You know it isn’t good for your head
But the ones that have run out of questions
Are the damned and the already dead

And I’m not going to give up
I’m not going to give in
I’m just going to get out there
I’m not going to give up
I’m not going to give in
I’m just going to get out there
I’m not going to give up
I’m not going to give in
I’m just going to get out there
I’m not going to give up
I’m not going to give in
I’m just going to get out there

For The Love Of God ?
Wrap yourself in cotton wool and call it Sunday best
Splendid clothes for little sheep no different East or West
Lets go sing a hymn or two to put our minds at rest
Lets go start to sin again just after we’ve confessed
It’s just not right
It’s just not right

Lets formulate a method to make sure they keep our rules
Let’s dictate – indoctrinate in churches and in schools
Let’s threaten them with hellfire at the age of four or five
Let’s breed neurotic vegetables who’re scared to be alive
It’s just not right
It’s just not right

And somewhere down the line from cradle to the grave
You realise that you just took but never gave
That’s when you cry “Hey Jesus Christ
I’m just a sinner – Won’t you save me ?”

So I can get to Heaven but I’ll have to earn my way ?
I must trade in my principles or there’ll be Hell to pay
I offer up my intellect and let you take control
To fuck my head with promises of how to save my soul
It’s just not right
It’s just not right

So what about the spacetime and the singularity ?
Might not mean that much to you – It means a lot to me
Guess its just confuses things the way that you perceive
Guess it’s just the reason why I never could believe
It’s just not right
It’s just not right

Don’t even dream that you’ll be more than second best
You just can’t win – It’s just the way they set the test
They only want to hear what puts their minds at rest
It’s just not right

Funny how each enemy has God upon their side
To vindicate the slaughter and to justify the pride
To put a bullet through your brain – To claim that’s its divine
To kill and maim in Jesus’ name is just and good and fine
It’s just not right
It’s just not right

So take a look around your world and see what it has caused
This misinterpretation of your fundamental laws
From Bethlehem to Babylon – From Baghdad to Beirut
We overcome and undermine and trample underfoot
It’s just not right
It’s just not right

Don’t even try to think that you can mask the pain
In faith – A mind disease for those without a brain
Say “Hallelujah ! Jesus ! Mary !
Won’t you save me once again ?”

Wrap yourself inside your faith
Your God will keep you nice and safe
A drug to keep your mind disguised
Oblivious – anaesthetised
Faith is just a mask of fear
Deep down you know that nothing’s clear
So say a prayer and make your deal
It may just help – If Hell is real

For the love of God ?
For the love of God ?
For the love of God ?
For the love of God ?

Stranger
Well I’m stranger than you know
Deep inside my eyes there’s a dark fire burning
Something that I’m scared to show
That you don’t see
Well I guess its nearly time to go
The moments fade away with the clock hands turning
– Running out of time to show
That you love me

So tonight I’ll turn the lights down low
Slip away to the dark side lady
Tie my arms around your soul
Won’t you hold me ?
Tomorrow when your far away
I’ll lie alone and remember – Babe
I’ll try not to recall these words
That you told me

Don’t say it again – Don’t say its forever
Don’t say it again – Don’t tell me its true
Don’t say it again – How could I ever recover
Don’t say it again – I’ll be waiting for you

Well I called you up to let you know
How it feels to be lonely – Hey
But someone said you weren’t home
Can’t you hear me ?
Does it scare you to be on your own –
So far away from your best friend ?
Maybe someone’s there beside you now
That I can’t see

Don’t say it again – Don’t say its forever
Don’t say it again – Don’t tell me its true
Don’t say it again – How could I ever recover
Don’t say it again – I’ll be waiting for you

So listen and I’ll let you know
I’ll be there in the dark night – Yes -
I guess I’ll never let you go
When I find you
Turn around and turn away
Put it all in the past
But just remember when you’re all alone
I’m behind you

Don’t say it again – Don’t say its forever
Don’t say it again – Don’t tell me its true
Don’t say it again – How could I ever recover
Don’t say it again – I’ll be waiting for you

Doing The Damage
I need to get it together
I need to take it apart
I need a plan of the maze to make the most of my days
I need a life to make the most of my heart
I need to take it to pieces
I need to start it from new
I need to turn on the lights to make the most of my nights
I need to find myself a room with a view

So come on in pull up a chair
Lets go lose ourselves in there
You know man there won’t be any friction
Meet my good friend – Alcohol
Drugs ? I’m sure you’ve done ‘em all
Come and meet my oldest friend – Addiction

I keep doing it – I keep doing it – I keep doing it
I keep doing the damage
I keep doing the damage
I keep doing the damage

I’ve got to write a new chapter
I’ve got to turn a new page
I need to read up the laws and find the sanity clause
I need to wisen up and act my age
I need to shut out the shadows
I need to shut down my brain
Its the finest of lines between the two states of mind
So which is normal ? Fucking normal ? Insane ?

And it’s a crime that doesn’t pay
To think too deeply anyway
It just (de) generates delusion
Meet my best man – Doctor Freud
And my mistress – Paranoid
Come and meet my closest friend – Confusion

I keep doing it – I keep doing it – I keep doing it
I keep doing the damage
I keep doing the damage
I keep doing the damage

So come on in pull up a chair
Lets go lose ourselves in there
You know man – this isn’t science fiction
Meet my good friend – Alcohol
Drugs ? I’m sure you’ve done ‘em all
Come and meet my oldest friend – Addiction

And keep doing the damage
Keep doing the damage
Keep doing the damage
Keep doing the damage
Keep doing the damage
Keep doing the damage
Keep doing the damage
Keep doing the damage
Keep doing the damage
Keep doing the damage
Keep doing the damage
Keep doing the damage
Keep doing the damage
Damage
Damage
Damage
Damage
I’m damaged

It Might Just Change Your Life
Phased out and furious
With nowhere left to go
I’ve been to Hell and know it well
They feel the same I know
And they said I’m always welcome
Anytime I want to come and see the show

And kind is just a state of mind
What’s brutal begs belief
So lets go lay another slut
Or lay another wreath
The biggest undertaking
Is to dig down underneath
And it might just change your life
It might just change your life

Trashed up and traumatised
With nothing left to think
I piss away my principles
And pour another drink
I build another chain of thought
Then hit a missing link
(How low can you sink?)
Burned out and brutalised
10,000 TV kills
I hit the heights then hit the lights
Then hit the happy pills
And thought-transfusion therapy
Can’t cure the world’s ills
But it might just change your life
It might just change your life

I’ve been to bed with Eros
But I sleep with Thanatos
She’d love to know me better
But I know that he’s the boss
He’s always there to rape me
Anytime I’m at a loss
(Now I don’t give a toss!)
Forced to smile down murder mile
Forgotten how to laugh
Now I’ve been left design-depressed
A psyched-out sociopath
I’ve tasted fruit forbidden
And I’ve eaten grapes of wrath
And it might just change your life
It might just change your life
It might just change your life
It might just change your life

Ain’t Got Time For Love
She sits alone at night
The mirror tells her all she wants to know
Can’t tell her what to do
And in the morning when she’s still alone
She’ll think of something new

Out in the city street
A thousand people pass by every day
But never catch the eye
And in the morning when she’s all alone
She’s left to wonder “Why ?”

There must be someone maybe somewhere in this city
To break away the chains around her heart
Its always sad to see but life is never pretty
When no-one wants to play the other part

(Well I want to run) But I want that lady
(Well I want to run) But I can’t let go
(Well I want to run) But I aint got time for love

She sits alone at night
The TV tells her all she needs to know
To empty out her brain
And in the morning she’ll take anything
That might just help the pain

But is she so alone ?
Ten billion people cry away their nights
And dream away their days
We aint got time for love
That fickle mistress flirts but never stays

There must be something more
There must be something missing
There must be so much more to life than this
Don’t tell me lies or patronise me – don’t keep kissing
My ass – Won’t you tell it like it is ?

(Well I want to run) But I want that lady
(Well I want to run) But I can’t let go
(Well I want to run) But I aint got time for love

(Well I want to run) But I want that lady
(Well I want to run) But I can’t let go
(Well I want to run) But I aint got time for love

(Well I want to run) But I want that lady
(Well I want to run) But I can’t let go
(Well I want to run) But I aint got time for love

(Well I want to run) But I want that lady
(Well I want to run) But I can’t let go
(Well I want to run) But I aint got time for love

I aint got time for love
I aint got time for love
I aint got time for love
I aint got time for love

I Don’t Want To Know
I think I’ve been here before
At the bar – by the door
Through the smoke, coke and glass
I didn’t notice time passing on

I went down to the sea
The waves whispered to me
“Come and flow with the tide
Come and sink down inside me

If you can’t comprehend
The means or the end
If you don’t want to know anymore”

So many things you’ve been told
So fine they shine like fools gold
I watch greed take its toll
On your nine carat soul

If you don’t understand
If you cry for this land
If you don’t want to know anymore

Here’s another creed out on crusade
Here’s another principle parade
Here’s another twisted thought tirade
Here’s another lie to live for

Bang the drums – Bang in the nails
For Sacred Cows and Holy Grails
For bombs and Somme’s and Passchendaele’s
Here’s another dream to die for

From the passion and pain
Through the sacred- profane
Well I don’t want to know anymore

Here’s another karma cracked and crazed
Unrepentant – Unamazed
Here’s another sword and standard raised
Here’s another lie to live for

Here’s another child born fair of face
Schooled in dogma and disgrace
Now here’s another messed-up master race
And here’s another dream to die for

So beat your wife or beat the walls
Sink your pint and drain your balls
Then up for work ‘cos duty calls
Here’s another lie to live for

Convince yourself your still alive
By clocking on from nine to five
You don’t exist – You just survive
And here’s another dream to die for
Another dream to die for
Another dream to die for
Another dream to die for
Another dream to die for

- I think I’ve been here before……

All Or Nothing
OK ! Tell me what you’re planning to do
That’s right – The question goes to you
You want a little ? Or maybe a lot ?
Are you happy with the life you’ve got ? Oh no !

They say “Settle on a compromise -
You gotta stay straight” That’s what they advise
I wouldn’t do it – It wouldn’t be me
I want a life and I want to be free

We want it all or nothing
We want it all or nothing
We want it all or nothing
We want it all – We want it all
We want it all or nothing

Some people never get to living at all
And what the hell is life when you’re chained against some wall ?
I wouldn’t do it – It wouldn’t be right
I’d never give it up without a fight

We want it all or nothing
We want it all or nothing
We want it all or nothing
We want it all – We want it all
We want it all or nothing

So that’s life ! – No-one ever said it was fair
Are you gonna lie down and pretend that you don’t care
Not me – I want to be free
I’m going to claim what’s due to me

We want it all or nothing
We want it all or nothing
We want it all or nothing
We want it all – We want it all
We want it all or nothing

We want it all or nothing
We want it all or nothing
We want it all or nothing
We want it all – We want it all
We want it all or nothing
All or nothing

We’ve Got The Drugs
I don’t believe in the things that deceive
I don’t want to follow the leader
I don’t pretend Lady Luck is a friend
The bitch is never there when you need her
I don’t agree with the shit that I see
I just can’t accept your decision
I’d rather ask why than just turn a blind eye
And exist with a limited vision

We’ve got all you ever need
Sad distractions guaranteed
We’ve got every shade of greed to get ‘em green
Soaps and chats and MTV
So voyeur you – You voyeur me
We’ve got every type of kink to keep ‘em keen

We’ve got the drugs – We’ve got the drugs
We’ve got the drugs – We’ve got the drugs

You’re safe and you’re warm – Cocooned in the norm
You don’t even realise your dreaming
I can’t complain – I’ve got pills for the pain
But sometimes I still wake up screaming
The sun always shines on the un-open mind
So don’t call for help when you’re sinking
Each day’s always nice in a fools paradise
So have a nice life without thinking

We’ve got stocks and we’ve got shares
Shit from bulls and bull from bears
Money never talks it swears so listen good
If you don’t worship the buck
Boy you just ain’t worth a fuck
So go and make us rich just like you should

We’ve got the drugs – We’ve got the drugs
We’ve got the drugs – We’ve got the drugs

We’ve got all you’ll ever need
To stroke your clit or shoot your seed
We’ve got every type of trash to read or view
We’ve got sex of every kind
To stiff your dick and blow your mind
We’ve got blues and booze and hash and coke and glue
So come and learn to build a bomb
at “yoursinsanity.com
” Chat to Harry , Dick or Tom who’s “sexy Sue”
Shitty lives but we don’t care cos
It could be us – A millionaire
Who wants to be a square ? Its never you

We’ve got the drugs – We’ve got the drugs
We’ve got the drugs – We’ve got the drugs
We’ve got the drugs – We’ve got the drugs
We’ve got the drugs – We’ve got the drugs

What Are You Waiting For ?
You ! Tell me what do you do ?
There should be something for everyone
And not just a few
I said Hey ! Tell me what do you say ?
Would you settle for anything ?
It’s the easiest way

You can get it if you want it if you get up out your bed
Straighten up your attitude and straighten out your head
You can take it, you can share it – you can make it all come true
But no-one’s going to bother if there’s nothing bothers you

What do you want ? What’ll you do ?
Is it time to make it happen to you ?
When and how ? What about now ?
What are you waiting for ?
And what’s to be found in sitting around ?
Time to get your feet on the ground
Time to stand tall – for taking it all
What are you waiting for ?

Hey! Tell me what’ll you say ?
When the moment has passed you by
And the chance is away ?
I – I’m always willing to try
I wouldn’t settle for anything
That I knew was a lie

If you blew it you can do it if you take another try
Would you really want to face it on the very day you die ?
So get ready and get steady and get up off your knees
No-one’s going to ask you twice and nobody says “Please”

What do you want ? What’ll you try ?
Tell me how you think you’re going to get high ?
And if you pretend – where will it end ?
What are you waiting for ?
I’ll show you the way – What do you say ?
Time to make tomorrow today
Time to get live -time to survive
What are you waiting for ?

So many things we all want to do
So little time to make a dream come true
So many people just don’t even try -
So many roads lead nowhere fast
Too little time that never lasts
So little chance of ever knowing why

You can get it if you want it if you get up out your bed
Straighten up your attitude and straighten out your head
You can take it – you can share it – you can make it all come true
But no-one’s going to bother if there’s nothing bothers you

What do you want ? What’ll you do ?
Is it time to make it happen to you ?
When and how ? What about now ?
What are you waiting for ?
And what’s to be found in sitting around ?
Time to get your feet on the ground
Time to stand tall – For taking it all
What are you waiting for ?
What do you want ? What’ll you try ?
Tell me how you think you’re going to get high ?
And if you pretend, where will it end ?
What are you waiting for ?
I’ll show you the way – What do you say ?
Time to make tomorrow today
Time to get live – Time to survive
What are you waiting for ?

Small Town Sunday Night
Well it’s a small town Sunday night
Six hours from the city but a world away
It’s a small town Sunday night
The kids are going crazy to escape today

Well its a small town Sunday night
Same old conversations in the same old bars
About small town Sunday life
Gazing from the gutter at the distant stars

Tell me what you’re going to do
How you’re going to make the break for somewhere new
Say you’ll never settle down
Got to get out of this town
Tell me what you’re going to be
Tell me how and when – And who you’re going to see
Say you got to get away
Can’t stay here another day

And maybe tonight
You’ll be telling me you’re going to change the world
And maybe tomorrow
You’ll just be living the same life
Get up and get it together
Hey don’t want to sit and dream away your days
Wakn up to the new world
And take control of your own life

Well it’s a small town Sunday night
And Mary’s lying dreaming she’s in Hollywood
In her small town Sunday life
She’s going to make LA – She’s going to make it good
Yeah it’s a small town Sunday night
Now Mary’s got a baby and she’s seventeen
In her small town Sunday life
Guess she’ll just forget about the silver screen

You know that anyone can say
How they’re going to live their life a different way
Not an easy thing to do
To walk away from all you knew
And all too often so its seems
We just settle on a price and sell our dreams
Scared to look outside the door
In case we find there might be more

And maybe tonight
You’ll be telling me you’re going to change the world
And maybe tomorrow
You’ll just be living the same life
Get up and get it together
Hey don’t want to sit and dream away your days
Waken up to the new world
And take control of your own life
And maybe tonight
You’ll be telling me you’re going to change the world
And maybe tomorrow
You’ll just be living the same life
Get up and get it together
Hey don’t want to sit and dream away your days
Waken up to the new world
And take control of your own life

Don’t have to wait until tomorrow
Don’t have to wait until tomorrow just to get outside
Don’t have to wait until tomorrow
To take control of your own life
Don’t have to wait until tomorrow
Don’t have to wait until tomorrow just to get outside
Don’t have to wait until tomorrow
To take control of your own life

Casualty
So you tell me you’re so depressed
Don’t you think that I might have guessed ?
Take a look at your mind its messed up
You’ve become a mutation
Do you want me to give you hope ?
Do you want me to pass the rope ?
Do you want someone else to cope
With all your fear and frustration ?

Maybe you should go fight a world war
Maybe you should go learn what fear is for
Maybe you should polish up your pride
Maybe you should get a grip inside – Or
Maybe you should be contemplating suicide

You might be better off dead
With all the little things in your head
You might be better off dead
With the monsters living under your bed
You might be better off dead
Now you’re battered – burned-out – bruised and bled
You might be better off dead
Oh cos you’re a casualty

So you’re down ? On the edge of Hell ?
Don’t you think that I know it well ?
So you pick up the phone and tell
Me how the fire’s getting higher
Do you want me to spoil the fun ?
Do you want me to load the gun ?
Will you find someone else to run
To when its down to the wire ?
Maybe you just haven’t got the guts
Maybe you are just all “ifs and buts”
Maybe you should go live on crack cocaine
Maybe you should go die a man insane – Or
Maybe you’re just learning to love the pain

You might be better off dead
With all the little things in your head
You might be better off dead
With the monsters living under your bed
You might be better off dead
Now you’re battered – burned-out – bruised and bled
You might be better off dead
Oh cos you’re a casualty

Maybe you should go fight a world war ?
Maybe you should go learn what fear is for ?
Maybe you should polish up your pride
Maybe you should get a grip inside – Or
Maybe you should be contemplating suicide

With all the little things in your head
You might be better off dead
With the monsters living under your bed
You might be better off dead
Now you’re battered – burned-out – bruised and bled
You might be better off dead – Oh
You might be better off dead
With all the little things in your head
You might be better off dead
With the monsters living under your bed
You might be better off dead

You might be better off dead

All I Ever Really Wanted To Do
I take a look at your life
And I guess you really think that you’ve made it
Learned back at school of the Golden Rule
And ever since you’ve always obeyed it
You never look at the stars
You drive executive cars
And you’re strong
You’re just so well-adjusted
And you’re popular – trusted -
Belong !

I’m sure its really so much better that way
But I’ve a problem with the things that you say
You’re a Superman (official!) but you’re Mr Superficial to me
I only want to be

That’s all I ever really wanted to do
That’s all I ever really wanted to do
That’s all I ever really wanted to do with my life

I take a look at myself
Well I’ll never come up smelling of roses
One too many “Maybe tomorrow’s”
Too, too many “Just supposes”
But just suppose that I’m right
And it’s important to fight for what’s true
Well then I know who I am
And it makes me less fucked up than you

I think your scared to even open your eyes
I think you hide behind a fragile disguise
You think you know it all but nothing’s what you’re showing to me
I only want to see !

That’s all I ever really wanted to do
That’s all I ever really wanted to do
That’s all I ever really wanted to do with my life

Well I want to give and not take
I want to be true and not fake
I want to be all I can be
I just want to be happy with me

That’s all I ever really wanted to do
That’s all I ever really wanted to do
That’s all I ever really wanted to do with my life
That’s all I ever really wanted to do
That’s all I ever really wanted to do
That’s all I ever really wanted to do with my life

Giving It All Away
For all the things I’ve never done
For all the songs I’ve never sung
For all the things I wanted to say
For all the days that don’t amaze
For all the nights became a haze
Guess I’m giving it all away

For all the dreams you had for me
For all the things I’ll never be
For silver linings all turned grey
For thoughtless words so quickly said
For eyes of blue now always red
Guess I’m giving it all away

For hopes – For promises – For dreams
For magic – wide-eyed – hopeless schemes
For all the games I wanted to play
For all the people I misled
Cried and lied to – Screwed and bled
Guess I’m giving it all away

And all the smiles forced through the tears
For all these crazy – fucked-up years
Well now I’m giving it all away
For all the days and hours mis-used
For all those issues I confused
Well now I’m giving it all away

In all the days I spent with you
In all the things we tried to do
In all the the words we’d ever say
There was a sunrise overcast
That’s now a sunset unsurpassed
Cos I was giving it all away

And now its ending – Now its gone
I’ll let you all just carry on
Just one more thing to say
Here’s to you – A fond farewell
I’m out of time and dreams to sell
Because you’ve given me all away

Going One Way
Hey don’t you want to know ?
Want to know what I’m doing ?
Hey don’t you want to know ?
Now I’m going one way
I wonder what went wrong
What it is we were missing
And I wonder where you are
Now I’m going one way

If you’re alone and sad then I’m sorry
You must be feeling like I do
And like a shadow lost in the night
I see you walk away – I see you walk away
And when you walk away – when you walk away

I’ll try and carry on
I’ll try and keep it together
Hey I’ll try and carry on
But I guess I’m going one way
I tried to settle down
I tried to keep it together
Now I know I’ll be out tonight
Cos I guess I’m going one way

So many dreams are now just illusions
So little time left to tell you
Too many questions never addressed
I see you walk away – I see you walk away
I see you you walk away – And when you walk away
When you walk away
Oh when you walk away

I wouldn’t want to lie and have to say “Sorry”
I wouldn’t want to ask and hear you say “No”
I haven’t got the will to say “Don’t worry”
But I haven’t got the guts to say “Just go”
Nothings ever said that’s said just for nothing
But nothings what’s we said for far too long
So what is left now to say now to each other ?
Another lie ?
Another lie ?
Another lie ?
Another lie is all wrong

I hope there comes a day you find a hero
I hope you find a man who’ll crown you queen
But I am on a one-way trip to nowhere
And I’ll never be the man I might have been
I cry for all the things that I’ve forsaken
I weep for all the things that I’ve done wrong
Now I’m the man that time has overtaken
I don’t belong
I don’t belong
I don’t belong
I don’t belong here anymore

Album Lyrics (A Place In The Sun)

A Place In The Sun

Sign on the line for the life of your time
You don’t have to say what you see
You can scar with a word, an obsession absurd
Carved too deep a shadow in me
Face to the wall with the thrill of it all
I may as well scream at the sky
Left with no voice or alternative choice
I may as well learn how to fly

So you turn on your TV
And learn what you should be
And if you do this
You’ll be all that you could be
Through anoraks eyes
You see cellulite thighs
So send us an cheque
And we’ll sure exorcize

And I’m sure there’s a place in the sun for people like you
Yes I’m sure there’s a place in the sun for people like you

Come meet the demands of the heart on your hands
Please try to grin as you bear
Must carry the can for the child and the man
Weighed down with the burden of care
Up to my eyes in the shit and surprise
I may as well turn on the fan
Dragged down to the wire with the depth and desire
I don’t know if I could – If I can

You can pool your long faces
Your airs and disgraces
Paste plasterboard smiles
In the dark empty spaces
- Fuel up the fires
Of your darkest desires
While hypocracy hangs
From your steeples and spires

And I’m sure there’s a place in the sun for people like you
Yes I’m sure there’s a place in the sun for people like you

And I go to the clinic
A terminal cynic
They pass me some pills
For the fine art of mimic
I rake through the bins
For my soul and my sins
Far too few tonics
And too many djinns

But I hope there’s a place in the stars for people like me
Yes I hope there’s a place in the stars for people like me
Oh there must be a place in the stars for people like me
Shall I pray there’s a place in the stars for people like me?

Album Lyrics (Shame)

Shame

January came
- The smile of a child through the rain
Little boy blue how’d you do?
Come play with the pain
I’ll be a good friend
I’ll stay to the end of the game
So lend me your ear
And I’ll whisper my name
Shame

Company crawled from a mile
Then left me alone
Destiny called for a while
Then put down the phone
Each cute Miss-conception
Passed on the infection of blame
Aborted affection through lethal injection of
Shame

Shadows concealed and congealed
- Crept up unawares
I picked up a plan from the man
Who lives under the stairs
Son you must write
As a child of the night stake your claim
For youth unfulfilled,
Shelved, silenced and killed through the
Shame

I love how you stand in your bands
- Your backs to the wall
Lords of mistruth and mistrust
False gods of fuck all
Christ how I’ve cried
For the millions that died in Your name
Who’ll pick up the pieces
You sad little species of
Shame?

Album Lyrics (Legacy)

Legacy

What better way
To say “Goodbye”
What softer shroud
In which to lie
What lasting testament
To will
My legacy
That time can’t kill

More faithful friends
No man could know
Than wind and rain
And ice and snow
What finer things
Than silk and gold
My legacy
That can’t be sold

And who knows what
The future brings
It only whispers
- Never sings
Come rest your head
Come lay your wreath
My legacy
Can rest in peace

Album Lyrics (The Toll Of The Bell?)

The Toll Of The Bell?

So you heard the voice of Jesus
Tucked ‘tween the lines of greed
The Noble Lie doth satisfy
And give you all you want
- But never need

So you strolled off to the churches
Then you marched off down the mall
You worshipped God and mammon
Camels, needles’ eyes
- You must recall

And you think you’re going to Heaven
The big black dogma bit your brain
So who’s the true believer
And who’s the damned insane?

You hide behind your whitewashed fences
You barbie hard on well mowed lawns
Money laundered, squandered whores
Of more and more and more and mores
While the Uber – Cut and yawn

And you think you’re going to Heaven
The big black dogma bit your brain
So who’s the true believer
And who’s the damned insane?

Yet you think you’re going to Heaven
The big black dogma bit your brain
So who’s the true believer
Who’s the damned?
Who’s the damned?
Who’s the damned insane?

Album Lyrics (Embers)

Embers

Well she says I don’t smile too often
And my eyes seem far away
And I don’t dance like I used to
And I didn’t phone today
And we don’t go out as much now
And we haven’t much to say
The hours drag on forever
- They used to slip away

Could we ever re-discover the feeling
If we still had the notion to try ?
We touch briefly and we call it forever
We drift and we never know why
All the time that you can’t understand it
As you cry in your search for a cause
You know that you’ll never define it -
It’ll never be the way that it was

I need a little more time – to find the things need
Just a little more time – to find the things I need
I need a little more time – to find the things need
Just a little more time – to find the things I need

But she says I don’t smile too often
And my eyes seem far away
And I don’t dance like I used to
And I didn’t phone today
And we don’t go out as much now
And we haven’t much to say
The hours drag on forever
- They used to slip away

I need a little more time – to find the things need
Just a little more time – to find the things I need
I need a little more time – to find the things need
Just a little more time – to find the things I need

Album Lyrics (Scene Of The Crime)

Scene Of The Crime

Well I’d just like to say I was there
At the scene of the crime
Please trust my disgust and despair
At the blood of our time
And I know you must judge us but please
- Oh please you must understand
We were led by the Neverbeen people
To a Neverworld land

– Rattled every third bead on the rosary
How we wailed at the wall
Cut down with our Crescent and Crucifix
Answered every false call
We had sad superstitions and ignorance
We had gods of kinds
Maimed and mindfucked all those with the vision
As we pulled down the blinds

We had Emperors, Kings, Mullahs, Ministers
Each one all bled the same
Never stopped to say pause this insanity
That we kill in Your name
We had tyrants and Popes, we had Presidents
We had martyrs and fools
And we sharpened the stakes of our suicides
– Fell impaled on our rules
