A recording session was planned rather quickly this weekend, but it went better then we could have hoped for. Some of the Hudson Branch guys (well one, not including us Jadiid members in the band), a mr. cobey bienert came along to start on some of their songs that are going on the Christmas ep. We have two songs we are almost done tracking for, and four other songs we have written/arranged.
It goes fast… We never seem to have enough time. I’ve lived in Chicago now for maybe 6 or 7 months and it seems like a week. Work and school takes up most of our time leaving little or borrowed time for music. We are working hard to change that. -matt
Recording We went back into the studio this past weekend. It certainly wasn’t as productive as the first weekend but we got some crucial things done, including kevin’s horn part (well for one song at least). I’ve been thinking about all of us learning to play a little horn (at least to the point where we can hold a note). At the end or beginning of a song we could all play a little symphonic horn section… what do you think.

The Christmas record was started this past weekend! I know its only September but hey we got a lot of work to do.
The ideas being brought to the recording process are really cool this time. We are all very excited to share with you what we come up with. You can be sure we will be using sleigh bells liberally. Here are a few other things to look forward to…

I don’t think creating something original should be the goal. If it is something really from yourself… then originality will naturally come. Rather I think we should look for the things that intersect at tradition and creation. There is a reason Dylan copied Guthrie or Tweedy copied Dylan or Radiohead copied Talking Heads. They saw value in the tradition they were carrying on… and there own art became so much more “original

Easter
it seems important
This is a subject not to talk about. Upcoming elections, promises made, proverbial skeletons in the closet.
I don’t pretend to have answers about the perfect situation where the president of our dreams shows up and fixes this country. But i do agree with a man who says that change comes when the people stand up and become one.
We must answer hard questions of race, the poor, segregation along many lines, sickness, indifference.
Everyone has a perspective, and everyone deserves life. So the answers are never one will fix all.
If searched hard enough you will find the evil in anyone. In fact i bet you find it with out really having to try very hard. The good, the beautiful, the greatness in others; that is what is hard to see, but what is crucial to find and exploit. I believe in doing the future together, in believing in the achievements of the past, in the power of community to bring change and life, in the redemptive acts that seem to play out when we are willing to understand and listen to our “enemy.”
Cheers to those who fight and serve for that. Cheers to those who create beauty in an attempt to reflect it.

i wrote a new song… its called “Half Given Circle.” I always try to write songs during a milestone part of my life, i.e. birthdays, funerals, but those always come wierd and awkward. Then later on the song comes out but i don’t really even notice that it was about that other thing… subconcious is wierd. Anyway here are the lyrics.
