Formed in Boston by former Berklee College of Music students and previously known as "El Frente", Modabeat's sound is energetic with elements of funk, rock, disco and latin nuances, powered by Debbie's strong vocal performances, Marco's songwriting, Eddie's deep and groovy bass lines, Gyasi's remarkable guitar playing, all held by the funkiest and grooviest woman drummer out there, Lorena.A regular act in the Greater Boston area, Modabeat is an open box of cultural diversity and their music speaks for itself. Coming from West Virginia, Gyasi's gypsy roots combined with electrifying riffs give the band a pure rock/blues sound that complements Debbie's magnetic keytar playing. Her powerful, dazzling vocal lines, developed since her early years growing up in Singapore, are an essential part of the band's sound. This lyricism is brought to new levels thanks to the Eddie and Lorena duo (from Texas and Venezuela, respectively), who mix and match everything from funk, rock and dance, to cumbia, salsa and techno, thus bringing the beat in Modabeat, and taking Marco's songwriting to a completion. Ever since he first picked up an instrument in his native Colombia, Marco has been constantly writing lyrics, songs and beats that find in Modabeat the perfect outlet. Some of Modabeat's highlights include:- Opening Act For World Renowned Performers such as Reik, Daddy Yankee, Belanova and Camila (2010 - 2011)- The band has been showcased nationally in LATV, appeared in Telemundo and BNN, and were recently highlighted by Billboard (2011)- "WINNER" – Vive tu Música with 5 (2011)- “Best Artist” – Boston Music Conference Finale at Royale (2010)- "Finalist" – Vive tu Música with 5 (2010)- “Best Latin Rock Band” – Boston Music Conference Latin Rock Showcase (2010)- “Best Latin Rock Band in Boston” – The Phoenix/El Planeta (2010)Some of the places and venues where Modabeat has performed include:In California: LA's Club Nokia and Hollywood's PalladiumIn Boston and surroundings: Royale, Lynn Auditorium, Villa Victoria Center for the Arts, Boston City Hall Plaza, The Middle East, Lansdowne Pub, Samba Bar, Boston University, Berklee College of Music, UMASS, Mojito’s Lounge, The Lily Pad, among others...
