Biography

“If you're going to do trip hop, you'd better have a Class-A female vocalist to step up and satisfy your listeners' expectations of the genre…This San Francisco-based four-piece seem committed to exploring a sound that parallels the very best of that genre, but they still make a populist push in terms of the relaxed atmospheres and lush arrangements on display. Karmacoda's ace in the hole is Heather Pierce, whose voice is so gorgeous that it's impossible not to get wrapped up in its sexy cool—think Mimi from Low without the guilt.” —Splendid Music Review Launched as a collective effort between songwriters, Brett “B.” Crockett and Heather Pierce in 2001, Karmacoda’s objective has always been to create music which mirrors the humanity captured within a specific time and space. Lacing elements of electro, rock and jazz through a danceable groove, their hybrid sound is modern, emotional and infectious. Outfitting themselves with bass player Eric Matsuno’s hypnotic vibe, programmer/keyboardist Hymnisphere’s magic, B. on vocals, guitar, keys and the pristine, soaring lead vocals of Heather, Karmacoda pours on the mood live, enveloping their fans completely. Six self-released albums have garnered Karmacoda songwriting awards for 'Swan' (Best Independent Song used in Film & Television—2003 Independent Music Awards) and 'Make Like Mine' (Best Dance/Electronica Honorable Mention—2008 International Songwriting Competition). They are in regular rotation on radio (San Francisco's 'Chill with Alice' 97.3 FM), internet stations (Below Zero, Groovera, SOMA FM) and electronic music focused podcasts (The Chillcast, Dave’s Lounge). Their songs have been licensed for placement on television (Burn Notice, MTV Real World/Road Rules Challenge), independent film (Neverland, Paris, The Last Run, Voyeur) and compilation albums (San Francisco Under a Groove, Destination Lounge SF, Below Zero Minus 1).
