Part rock. Part adrenaline, part soul. Part war machine: Gunnar Dane's pedigree is All American Mutt. Tony McGee is the epitome of voice and soul. Craig Michalovich wields his wailing guitars like weapons, earning the name “Axeman” long before the term became cliché. Jeff McCullum plays bass guitar. That’s all he does. Ever. And holding down the backfield with layers of pounding calamity, Johnny “Ringo” Sherman on drums controls the chaos with masterful timing. California-based rock quartet Gunnar Dane formed up in the latter part of 2007 when Craig, Jeff, and Johnny moved their act from Cleveland to San Diego. During the Ohio years they toured with a female singer, opening for world class bands Drowning Pool, Adema, Chris Caffery of the Trans Siberian Orchestra, Doro Pesh, and Herod. When commitment issues surfaced costing missed opportunities, Craig made the decision to relocate. Jeff and Johnny, faithful friends, did not hesitate to follow. Born and raised in the coastal Northern California town of McKinleyville, Tony McGee now calls the wooded hills of So Cal his home. His experience during three tours of duty in the military became a fertile medium for his creative obsession. Moving back to his home state in 2007 after fifteen years abroad, he began seeking acoustic work for himself. Armed with words instead of guns, and drawing on his own experience performing solo and fronting bands, the singer songwriter set out to make a name for himself. After a few months of learning the fertile landscape of San Diego's music subculture, Tony received a call from a trio needing a lead singer to complete their band. During the ensuing months a fifth persona surfaced, to become known as Gunnar Dane.
