Throughout the latter part of the 90's armed with an acoustic guitar and a broader awareness of music, he immersed himself in songwriting and performed as a solo act. "I love the power I feel when I'm plugged into an amp, but there's something about the freedom of an acoustic guitar that takes me to a different place. Growing up, I wanted to be a lead guitarist in a hard rock/metal band. As I got older I began to focus on songwriting as a whole, and discovered that I had a lot to say. I really don't care what the dominant instrument is in any particular song, whether it's a guitar, a piano or a french horn, as long as it helps to get my point across."
