It was only a few years ago that Boston native recording artist GJ was
scheduled to work with some of music industry's biggest artists,
managers, and producers. The R&B artist, who has drawn musical
inspiration from the likes of Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Donell
Jones and Jay-Z to name a few, was well on his way to launching a
successful production career but something didn't feel right to him. A
destined encounter with one of his favorite music producers, Rodney
Jerkins, would later cause GJ to put his projects on hold and set him on
a completely different course. Jerkins, who has produced some of
Christian music's biggest artists, unknowingly reminded GJ of the need
to be sold out to Christ first before embarking on his many music
projects. After 10 years of producing tracks, this decision would prove
to be the turning point in GJ's young music career.
Less than a year later, God would begin to transform this talented
singer/songwriter/producer into one of 2008's most promising solo
Christian artist. GJ soon thereafter began recording tracks for his
forthcoming album, The Debut. Still relatively uncut, he would feature
the singles "Twenty4 Hrs" and "Did You Know" at a performance in the summer of
2007, when close to 400 hundred youth gathered in the main sanctuary of
Eagle Heights Church in Revere, MA for the concert segment of their
REACH Night extravaganza. GJ was one of the featured Gospel artists that
night and would be at the same venue later that Fall with over 500 in
attendance. On both nights, not one person in the building was left
sitting when GJ took the stage. God's use of his gifts that night left
GJ overwhelmed when 300 youths gave their hearts to Christ at the end of
the night; leaving GJ on fire to reach the lost for Christ.
The events would also confirm that GJ had a hit record on his hands. He
was soon thereafter invited to perform at The Lion's Den and other
venues and was asked repeatedly when and where his album would be
available. GJ began to put some serious time toward completing his first
album with original tracks produced by GJ himself; making him not just
one of the most buzzworthy new Christian recording artists but one of
the most talented upcoming producers in the game. The first single
"Twenty4 Hrs" is a slamming dance track while the second single "Goodbye" is a smoothed out certified hit record. GJ's album, appropriately named The
Debut, is scheduled for release January 15, 2009.
